Baby being sick

Hi,

My baby is 5 days old and my milk has now come in, she is starting to feed well but is guzzling her food down! After a feed she is a bit sick, just milk ( - I know it has a name but I don't know what it is!!) Anyway, just wondered how much is normal and how often is normal?!

She is feeding for around 20-30 mins at a time, is this ok?

Thanks

it all sounds perfectly normal to me.

They feed until they stop - whether they need it or not, and usually sick up the bit they didn't actually need (iykwim)

Have a word with the MW or HV when they pop round but it all sounds about right to me.

congratulations on your new baby

Congratulations!

Possetting is the word you're thinking of :) As long as its not a huge amount, and she doesn't seem to be in pain with it, I wouldn't worry. Though of course you can always check with the MW.

Feeding for 20-30 mins is great! Just let her do her thing. :)

Congratulations on your new baby Smile!

There is a huge range of normal for being sick. Both mine were quite sicky in that quite soon after every feed they would 'leak' enough to necessitate a change of bib and mopping up with a muslin but not enough for a whole clothes change (bear in mind though that I have quite low standards!) My niece, who had mild reflux, would throw up enough for both her and anyone else in the vicinity to need a clothes change a couple of times a day.

The things to look out for are lack of wet/dirty nappies, changes in behaviour (eg feeling floppy and being drowsier than usual) , slow weight gain and signs of pain after feeding.

Congratulations - very normal in my experience - both my DDs were like this.

Thanks all so much, I thought all was ok but it's so nice to hear from others. Breastfeeding has been so painful and today has bees the first day where each feed hasn't left one or both of us sobbing! And now she has started being sick it's nice to have a bit of reassurance.

Thanks again for all your words
