my eldest ds started secondary school last monday and came home full of it on the first day, he has made friends and seems to have a good friend that he goes around with, however dd who is a year 10, told me she found ds on the second day crying, even though he was with his friend. he was sick after breakfast last weds and ended up having that day off, every day he has come home and said he doesnt like the school and is homesick, today his head of year rang at 8.55 and said ds was ill and wanted to come home, i explained what was going on and he said he will keep an eye on him, but what can i do, im worried his new found friends will drop him if he keeps crying and also im worried that he may end up being a target for bullies.

what a brilliant idea milliways
well ds came home and said, today was not so bad
hooray!!!, he went to see his head of year this morning, but spent lunchtime in the resource centre with his friend, he says he now sits with someone on the bus too, he says he is still homesick and has worries, but he said its been a great help going to see his head of year at break, when i go to see his head of year though im going to suggest some on the great ideas youve come up with and the excisting buddy systems in other schools.

aww bless him, is he in reception or year one??
it doesnt matter how old they are, it still breaks your heart if they are unhappy.

quick update, ds's head of year rang to say that ds hasnt been to see him for several days now and he takes that as a good sign, ds reports feeling much happier and has asked if his new friend can come round, he looks much happier in the mornings and says the bus journeys dont bother him anymore, hes made more friends to talk to and is enjoying lessons..hopefully weve cracked it! heres to the rest of his time there
