If you walk to school in all weathers what do your dc's wear?

We only live a 5 minute walk to ds's school but it's more like a 20 minute walk at ds's pace.

I want to be able to walk in all weathers. We've walked once in rain but his trousers were soaked by the time we got there.

Does anyone put their dc's in water proof trousers? What do they wear when it's snowing etc?

He's 3 btw

Wellingtons in rain and snow? Get some almost-knee high wellies and then you can tuck the trousers into the wellies. Coupled with a below-waist length coat, and he would mostly be sorted.

I got these for my dc, not the cheapest option around but they are good quality and easy to get on and off.

I go with wellies with trousers tucked in and a long, warm coat, hats, scarves and mittens as appropriate.

At 3 I would put on waterproof trousers if the weather was bad. Mine all had these great all in one suits. Plus wellies. But here the weather is mostly awful....

waterproof trousers, good coats, wellies, fleecy trousers for snow. Always take spare socks just in case. Also worth getting waterproof mittens.

We walk every day 30 minute walk, dds are 3 and 4 and ds is 3 months.

as a no car family, i have found over the last year i need a bigger coat cupboard Hmm

dd's have wellies, big warm coats, lighter jackets, and wet-weather gear, inc umbrellas, wellies, raincoats. they dont have waterproof trousers as yet, but am looking for an all-in- one for dd4 who is just coming up to age 2.

wellies and then dc's change into school shoes at school..

they have a waterproof poncho each that they wear over their usual school coat, they whip them off and i take back home with me.

hazey, have seen them. but a local outlet shop sells regatta stuff cheap. need to get over there.

TurnipLantern · 19/10/2010 14:35

Wellies, and waterproof trousers if very wet or snowy.

SandyChick · 19/10/2010 15:15

Thanks everyone.

Will get ds some waterproof trousers then probably some fleecy lined ones for the snow. He has had waterproof all in ones etc before but need something now that's easy to whip off when we get to shool.

I've been surprised with how many people at ds's school still take the car even though they live close by. This was my main reason for strting this thread as I haven't seen any other kids in waterproofs for school so wasn't sure if it was the "done thing".
