Velcro is knackered on my Bumgenius

Hope someone has some advice on Bumgenius, the velcro is looking less loopy and the nappies keep coming undone! Now I have been using them since DS was about 4-5 month old - I only have a few BG which I use for when we are out or when he is at nursery, and he is now 2.10. Some of the BGs are still the okay, it is just the oldest ones.
I was wondering if there was a solution for reviving the velcro? As I was really hoping to reuse all of these for DC2....

I'm not hugely familiar with bumgenius as i used totsbots, but could you use a nappy nippa on them?

CharCharGabor · 15/10/2010 18:26

Have you tried clearing all of the lint and bits out of the 'hooky' bit? Or I suppose you could unpick it and sew some fresh elastic on.

I never use the tumble drier for my nappies and it is not recommended to use the drier on the outers regularly as it damages the PUL but apparently if you put them in for a short spell it helps to fix non sticky velcro.
HTH and please let me know if it actually works. I've read it in numerous places but not tried it myself as I've not needed to.

Yes BG are notoriously bad for this, I have half a dozen that were reserved for my nappy bag and they come undone too. As already suggested, remove as much fluff from the hook part and tumble-dry for around 15 mins. It should help a little.

megonthemoon · 15/10/2010 21:06

regular removal of all the lint and bits and bobs on the velcro has worked on mine lasted 2.3 years on DS and being used on DD (3 weeks) now with no issues.

i do tumble dry reasonably regularly so maybe that has helped

DeadBodyofKaraStarbuckThrace · 15/10/2010 21:26

Sadly I don't have a tumble dryer!

I will try the nappy nippa though, as I do have one of those.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd be worried that the nippa will damage the waterproof outer (you know at the bottom of the Y shape, to top sections will be on the velcro tabs so ok). You could visit a launderette or ask a friend to do them for you maybe?

SmacsGotABigWitchyWart · 15/10/2010 22:05

I don't think a nappi nippa would grip on them though as it needs to be loopy material so like tellyaddict says the top two arms would grip on the velcro but what about the bottom, that won't grip onto the outer shell and might damage it.
Launderette or ask a friend with a drier sounds like good suggestions to me.

DeadBodyofKaraStarbuckThrace · 16/10/2010 08:25

Yeah I will look into that. Unfortunately there isn't any launderette's near me but I'm sure someone must have a tumble dryer!

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I found that tutorial on the net on how to change the velcro for snap.
Some of the velcro on my BG v3 are also tired so I may give this a go.

Not sure if they're suitable for v3 or just v4 but worth a look!

Cumbrianlass2 · 15/05/2011 00:03

Those kits do work for v3s, and for v2s too. Is worth doing if a blast in the tumble doesnt perk them up. A nit comb works wonders cleaning out velcro Wink
