A210 exam tomorrow - have you done it?

I have my A210 Approaching Literature exam tomorrow. I'm nervous and one thing is really worrying me - do I need to memorise quotes for the poetry question? I can do themes and genres and all that other theory stuff, but I just can't seem to remember brief quotes!

I'm panicking aren't I?

It went ok, at least I managed to answer all the questions. I think I waffled abit, but now just very glad that it is over and drinking win!

well done you Smile

Bingtata · 14/10/2010 07:58

Definately a rest! I can't even spell wine after taking an English exam Grin My next module starts next feb, I find this works well for me because I begin to miss studying and my enthusiasm returns! If I launched straight in I would struggle to keep up the motivation Smile

Congratulations - I've been thinking about doing this course - have you enjoyed it? Can you recommend it?

jetcat · 14/10/2010 09:15

bing - what module are you doing next?

Superlapin, i very much enjoyed it. Well, most of it - the literature and gender part was a bit Hmm, but the rest was really interesting. A great introduction to studying lit i think.

NiceCupOfTea · 14/10/2010 09:26

Bingtata - I did A210 yesterday, too!

Do you remember which questions you answered?
I did 1, 4 and 7; wrote down anything and everything I could drag out of my brain and now my hand hurts after so much writing!

SuperLapin - it's a great course. Do it before it's withdrawn and replaced (later next year, I think)

winnybella · 14/10/2010 13:01

NCOT- so it went ok, then?

Bingtata · 14/10/2010 19:04

I'm doing U211 next, with an exam at the end of that too. I must be mad, definately doing one with an ECA after that.

NicecupofTea - I know you, I have namechanged since, but I think we started off our OU studies around the same time - you did Shakespeare short course in 2008 and are working towards doing a PGCE? I did 1,4 and 8 Smile

SuperLapin, it is a good course but I did find it abit dated in places.

NiceCupOfTea · 15/10/2010 12:57

winnybella - it was pretty much ok, the questions were straightforward enough (as opposed to my rambling answers - no way could you call them essays, more like streams of rubbish consciousness!) No idea what result i'll get - I dropped in lots of critics for the RN question; quotes from Wordy's Preface for Roms and even remembered some quotes from the Walder and Bygrave texts. Just hope that's what they wanted...
Oh, how's AA316 going? The reading workload looks enormous - how do you manage?

Bingtata - yep, I did L1 Shakespeare (and I'm doing the L3 Shakey course in Feb, so that's another exam to look forward to...Hmm). The PGCE thing might have to be re-thought, tho.

SuperLapin - what Bingtata said - the emphasis on 'wimmin' got on my nerves after a while. Would def. consider the new version of it, tho. So long as Lizbeth Goodman isn't on it!!!!

Bingtata · 15/10/2010 20:10

I'm so glad you said that Nicecupoftea, I thought it was just me who couldn't stand Lizbeth Goodman in performance or text Wink

Good luck with the Shakespeare course, I'm thinking of doing that after U211, but there are so many courses that I would like to do it is hard to choose!

Sounds good, NCOT! They know it's nearly impossible to write a coherent essay under exam conditions, so don't worry about that.

A316- well, I only just started reading the materials, I've read some of the novels before, but most a while ago so have to reread them all now. I think some will take longer, like Portrait Of A Lady or Middlemarch. Lots of critics, though. So far seems like a great course. I'm a bit worried about the first TMA, it's a textual analysis, same as for A210, even got Austen as one of the choices, but I'm wondering how am I supposed to 'up' my performance since it's level 3, iyswim. The passage given isn't more difficult, so it seems like I'll just have to dig deeper Confused.

Are you taking a break now, then?

NiceCupOfTea · 16/10/2010 10:25

Taking a break of sorts - trying to get ahead on Shakey reading/watching the plays and thinking about AA316 after that and maybe forcing myself to read Dombey and MM (I'm a very slooooooow reader - too easily distracted). Or i might do EA300 children's lit - any thoughts on that one?

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:44

I thought about doing children's lit- might do it next year. It's a relatively new course, isn't it? Might be worth going on their FC forum to see how people feel about it. But A316 is great, it really is. MM is a sloooow read, some parts are fantastic and some, well, slow Grin.

JetBlackCat · 17/10/2010 14:49

I am doing childrens lit next year, was going to try and cram it in this year, but thought it maybe not so much a good idea. So, am doing creative writing for now. Plus, as winny says, it is quite a new course, and i had my fingers well and truly burned with doing the first presentation of A317 words and musicHmm

I did once start A316, but had to drop out for health reasons. I couldnt really get into it thoughBlush
