hi
ds is 23mths and has always loved sitting on potty etc and even managed a couple of wees on there. However he has started to take his nappy off and say he needs a wee, then he will sit on the potty for ages say about 10-15mins. Then he gets up and tries to wee standing next to potty, sometimes he does this sometimes he doesnt. Then usually as soon as he moves away he wees on the floor. I dont mind as he is trying and it is him who gets the potty out etc but he gets really upset when he wees on the floor. Then he comes and asks for a nappy again only to repeat the whole thing an hour later. Personally I think he is too young to train but obviously he is wanting to go so I am not stopping him. He has done this about 5 times today alone so how can I help him?

hi nemo!!!

i has the same problem with my ds (4yrs)- my dh called it "stage fright" where he needed one but when hes thinking about needing one soooooo much- he just cant!. maybe try to distract him with a book or toy while hes on there????

Thanks milosmum. I have tried distracting with the tv or something but maybe a book would be better.

just an idea nemo- i think its one of those annoying things they work through on there own.... i know ds only had trouble for a few days but then went on to major hassle doing number 2's...... good luck!

lol thanks. As i say i dont expect him to use potty but he is initiating so dont want to stop him.

god no- dont stop it! it took ds until he was almost 3 before he d use one! it took us ages- even now at 4 1/2 we still have problems with him and poos- if he wants to do it now- go for it!!!

Just keep the nappies and trousers off him when at home so he can practise to his heart's content. It IS a lot of cleaning up but if he's that keen, he may not take very long. My dd was 24m and 2 days and not showing as much interest as your ds, I kept her out of nappies (except at night) and in 10 days it just clicked.

ok now he seems to be making himself wee.
