My child is 5 and in year 1, she is also an only. She doesn't want to go to anyone's house/have them over, says she plays on her own at school, doesn't want to go to any after school activities etc. I'm really worried she is missing out on the whole social developement side of school. Has anyone got any advice, how did you deal with this?

gosh, my dd (5 today :) ) is the same... i ask her what she did at school she says played in the playground, i say with who? she says by myself..... same every day :( and they said she was the same in nursery, the way i see it is she is happy being on her own so i've decided not to push her and see what happens, not very helpful sorry

regardless of this dd is extremely popular Hmm she just shrugs off the other kids when they want to play, or she starts playing and then gets bored and wanders off.... beats me

she's a strange child Grin
