Is anyone else turning into their Mother?

I have started to see characteristics I absoluteley HATE about my mothers' personality in myself and it is worrying me sick.I am also putting weight on at the same age and same rate she did and she now weighs at least 14 stone,(she's only just 5 foot)at 56.
I can just see a mini-me immerging and it's making me very .

unfortunately not - me being size 14 and mum being size 6/8!!!

I wish I could be my mother! She was a SAHM who always had hired help, looked fab, got to drive nice cars and do things like play bridge.

Ahem... yes... AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH. It seems like I can not loose weight no matter how hard I try. Between other things...

There's a saying in Spain that goes like: "Como ves a la madre, veras a la hija" (In other words yur mother is a representation of where you are heading to...)

I open my mouth and hear my mother's voice sometimes - usually when I'm teed off with dh.

dropinthe · 09/09/2005 14:13

Expat sounds just like my mum! She lives in Africa though.

Anyone who still looks good w/red lipstick and capri trousers in their mid-60s - like my mom - is worth emulating, IMO.

I wouldn't mind her massive bungalow w/custom built cupboards in the kitchen and granite worktops, either.

spidermama · 09/09/2005 14:26

I'm past worrying about this. I've stopped trying NOT to be like her and relaxed into the inevitable.
At this rate, in five years time, I'll be more like my mum than my mum is. What's more I expect my daughter to follow suit.

Good attitude I suppose-I just hate SO much about my mother,it gets me down.

I hope not. I know I resemble my mother, but I hope the similarity ends there!!!

I must say that the thought of being an insecure, self-destructive alchoholic with manic depressive and obsessive tendencies is enough to keep me sane, sober and balanced

Rhubarb · 09/09/2005 14:37

God Help me if I ever do then dh has instructions to shoot me and claim a mercy killing!

Kowhai · 10/09/2005 03:38

If I was to turn out like my mother I would be very attractive, insecure, envious of other people, bossy, domineering and divorced.

Pagan · 13/09/2005 17:00

Yes - and I keep getting 'mother vus' Like a deja vu but when you realise that what you've said or done was exactly like how she would have said or done it - same facial expressions, stances, attitude the lot!!

dropinthe · 13/09/2005 17:02

And me-its helping me get more depressed by the day!

Nik72 · 13/09/2005 17:06

LOL at "mother vu"!
it's a standing joke in my family that i am a clone of my mum but i am paranoid about the weight thing too - she is a size 20 - to the extent of being possibly too obsessive about food/exercise etc. She can get on my nerves sometimes but we get on well & are good pals so i suppose it could be worse!!

dropinthe · 13/09/2005 17:11

I used to be good friends with my mum-I just despise her now! Too much water etc etc...
