DH works in an Independent School and none of the male teachers take off more than two days when their wives have babies. When I had DD, DH took off 4 days. He had 2 off whilst I was being induced.
I'm due any day now and DH isn't sure how much time he should ask for or take off. The school is terribly antiquated when it comes to employment policies. They mirror State schools in every other way, so I wondered if there was a policy laid down in State schools over Paternity leave entitlement.
I realise he would be entitled to two weeks statutory but does anyone actually take this? At least in industry, the father has the option to take annual leave around the time the baby is born. I'm afraid we could not get our timing right to have our baby during the school holidays. Partly it is about me having help at home for the first week, but it is also about DH being able to spend time with our brand new baby, who will only be brand new once.
