Rough nappies

Ive been given a full set of motherease nappies but they are at least second if not third hand. I know that using them would save me an absolute fortune but I need to work out how to soften them up.

They are so rough and I wouldn't want them anywhere near a baby's bottom. I also don't think they would be very absorbent in their current state.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can revive these nappies?

Try giving them a wash with some white vinegar. Or putting them in the tumble dryer.

You could line them with fleece liners, or with fleece topped boosters to add to their absorbency. (Do they come with the snap in liners?) Also don't worry about them feeling 'rough' as soon as your baby has done a tiny wee, they'll quickly soften up.

Do a plain water rinse. I found the same thing with some 2nd hand bambino mios and a rinse softened them right up. Shame the outers are so rubbish tho.

Thanks for your advice everyone. Will give these things a try. It would be a shame not to use them.

Planning to try and sort these nappies out this weekend and just wondered about the white wine vinegar. Does it go in the detergent drawer instead of detergent? And how much should I use? I've got 18 nappies.

Thanks

Thanks to all. Washed the nappies yesterday with vinegar and tumble dried them. They've come up good as new! Perfect!

Thanks x

I don't know whether this will work, so I suggest you try it with just one nappy first, but if I have a very rough towel, I find a boil wash really (and I mean REALLY) softens it up

i also had second hand motherease - used to give them a rub (rubbing one side of the nappy against another) before putting them on and that worked too.
