Son off to PGL-Anxious parent

My DS who is 9 is off to PGL in isle of wight on a cub weekend. I know that this is going to sound totally pathetic but I am anxious about it. He has been on cub camps before but they have been very local so although I have worried it has not been too bad.
Now he is going off on a ferry and will be doing quad biking and kyaking. I am just worried he may get hurt or worse or wander off. I am a normal mum of 2 and I know he is 9 and will be in safe hands but just cannot help worrying. Since I have had children I do constantly worry about bad things happening to them. Is that a normal parent thing? Would other parents be a little anxious about their DS or DD going off for the weekend. I know he will have a fab time but just cannot relax about the whole thing.
I dont feel like this if DH and I go off and leave them with grandparents for weekend but for some reason this is worrying me. Am I normalBlush?

My 9 year old recently went on a school trip to the coast for a week. Like you it was the first time he had been away apart from visits to the IL's. I always worry whilst they are travelling (paranoid) and with him I was worried that he would leave half of his stuff behind as he is very irresponsible!
However I think it does them alot of good and even if they do get homesick I think it helps them to become more independent
My DS2 seems to have come home with the same amount of cothes he went with although from the amount of washing he brought home I suspect that he wore the same jeans and tshirt all week!
try to relax a bit...It was SO quiet and tidy here for a week! Everyone worries a bit I think.

I'm 30 and have a 2 year old, but MY mum still worries when I leave the country!!

I guess it's just part of being a parent!

You are normal but DS will have a lovely time, not bathe, learn a lot of rude words and come back with teenager attitudes a year older.

DS1 had a great time at Osmington Bay PGL with his school. My advice is enjoy your free time.

Normal to worry, but there is really no need to - the PGL staff are extremely competent and safety conscious. DS has been on three PGL trips (two UK, one France), had a brilliant time and came back unscathed! Also two Japanese girls I know (aged 10 and 11 at the time) spent a week at PGL in the Isle of Wight (Little Canada?) over the summer and also had an amazing time despite being several thousand miles away from their families....
