36 wks preg and 21mo DD v clingy

DD(21mo) has always been fairly confident. DC2 is due in 4 weeks. For the last week and a half, nursery have been saying she's been quiet and lethargic, not herself and wanting lots of cuddles - she's not ill or sickening for anything as far as we can tell, and at home has seemed fine. I had to have a couple of days in hospital last week - although only not around (as far as DD was aware) for two mornings, it seems to have made DD very clingy towards me and I'm now getting constant demands for cuddles at home, when previously you were lucky to be graced with the occasional hug! I've been giving her all the cuddles and reassurance she's been asking for, but wondering if I should actually be gently pushing her more towards DH? E.g. DD fell over, DH picked her up, she screams for me, I took her off him - should I have left it be? Bearing in mind DC2 will of necessity have to take up a lot of my time fairly soon... Or do I just keep reassuring?

Hi,

I had the same with DD1 when DD2 was due. Got very clingy, and nursery reported she was different too, but after the birth she was so besotted with new baby that she didn't even bother with me!

I know its difficult but you have to keep reassuring her, and believe it or not you'll have plenty of time for DD when DC2 arrives as they take up less time than you remember second time round and you can do a lot with DD1 on one knee and DC2 in other!

My DD's have 19 month age gap so DD1 was still quite young but they definitely sense something big is about to happen, no matter how much you prepare them.

I wouldn't worry about it, just try spend as much time with DD just now and she will be absolutely fine.

Good luck when D day comes :)

Thanks - a relief to know someone else has experienced similar. I do hope DD is besotted with DC2, it will make life much easier!
