Always loved school, reception, loved going.

Now moved to Y1 first week ok now crying, clingy saying hates school, doesnt want to go tomorrow.

Spoke to teacher end of last week and she is aware and said the transistion is quite daunting from reception some kids take to it some others dont, but tonight he was really upset doesnt want to go tomorrow.

Anyone been through this and have any advice Sad

Poor wee soul.

Year 1 is hard work compared to Reception.

My ds is in Year 1 now and he too says he doesn't want to go in. I know this is because he actually has to graft!

Is there anything else at all bothering your ds? Like any kind of bullying? Any particular area of study he finds hard that you could focus on at home to eliminate his worries?

If not, then try to find out from him the stuff he does enjoy.

When you greet him at the end of the day, bring him something he loves or plan something great like favourite food or some telly - whatever he likes best to get him through tricky transition.

Of course lots of hugs and reassurance which I'm sure you've giving anyway.

i posted the same thing earlier today!

it seems that it;s far more sitting down and working than reception, which is more play-based

my ds is moaning that it's boring and that he hates it and doesn;t want to go

no answers, but it seems to be a very common thing!

He's finding the "joined up" writing difficult but when we practised at home it was fine, doesnt like sitting on the carpet first thing etc... Dont think there is anything else.

It just makes for feel very sad as he's always quite liked school.

He's quite happy when he skips out but tonight at bedtime he kept saying he didnt want to go

feel a bit better today as DS started to blubber a bit today but teacher noticed and asked him to do a job for her which he responded well to.
