You should be getting a form from your LEA any day now - I had one only this morning for DS2 for primary school next September, and they did the same for DS1 when he was due to go up to secondary school. You'll probably have the opportunity to state 3 schools, in order of preference (this may vary across the country, but it's unlikely; it's all supposed to be about choice, even if it doesn't seem that way!). You may also be able to contact someone at your county council about admissions. Hope this helps.

Good luck, Charlotte. Open Evening season's here again, so you'll get the chance to look round all the schools you and DS like the look of. Don't just listen to the teachers, though - talk to the pupils as well, as they're likely to be honest about all aspects!

Similar process to primary applications. Look on the LA website under School Admissions to see if you are sent a booklet (we weren't as ds is in a private school), primary school give them out or if you can apply online. Libraries normally have a few copies too.
