DS is 13 months, have used Bambino Mios for about 6 months but now totally fed up with them as they leak all the time (were fine at first but got worse when he started to crawl and changed shape around his middle!). The main problem seems to be what someone at a nappy fair charmingly referred to as "wing droop"! Basically the velcro on the side tabs droops so the wrap doesn't fit properly and leaks. As a solution she offered the new Itti Bitti Tutto nappies - beautiful but unfortunately a bit out of our price range at £17.50 each!! I've looked at other wraps but they all seem to have a similar design, I've tried Motherease as recommended by lots of people on here but they rubbed his little legs and generally seemed to be the wrong shape.

So, I've been trying all sorts of random combinations of second hand nappies I've picked up at nearly new sales. The best solution I've come up with is actually old-fashioned terry nappies with a Kushies wrap (for home) and the old-style Tots Bots Originals (flat shaped towelling fastened by nappy nippa - now discontinued I think but have found some discounted end of line stuff on the net) with Kushies wrap (for nursery). I already have some terries, nappy nippas and Kushies wrap so ideally want to work with what I've got. Also don't have much money so need to keep costs down.

Does this sound like a reasonable plan? I'm not sure if it's too much to expect the nursery staff to do - they seem fine with the Bambinos but with the Tots Bots they would have to nappy nippa (no folding terry squares - I think that would be beyond the call of duty!). I know pocket nappies would be the most convenient for nursery but I'm reluctant to buy these because of the cost, also don't want to buy too many nappies that are size specific (terries and size 2 tots bots with nippa fastening are v. flexible for size apparently).

TIA for your help! :)

First of all bambino mio are the worse nappy ive ever come accross!!

I dont think its too much to ask for nursery to nippa nappies but folding terries is a bit far as they have lots of babies to change and folding could take up time. You could maybe look at some aplix fastening to get a snug fit

Some second hand onesize pockets can be sold for as little as £5 each so maybe just getting 1 or two for nursery maybe a good idea then use terries at home?

Thanks Peachy - I really liked the Bambinos at first and couldn't see why everyone on here was so critical of them, until DS started to crawl! I even tried stitching some extra velcro into the tabs to try and make them fit better but to no avail ...

With the tots bots there's no folding - just nippa-ing but I'm wondering if the nursery might get fed up with me anyway (the girls there are lovely but I don't think any of them had seen a cloth nappy before we turned up!!). Will look at second hand pocket ones. :)

If you invest in a nappy nippa the bambino prefolds will work slightly better. 2nd hand pockets are good to find on some sites like this one failing that some mumsnetters who have cloth nappy shops and may offer a discount, i know nappyzone offers 10% discount to mumsnetters.

Thanks goodmanners - I hadn't thought of using nippas with a prefold! Will give that a go too.
