quick poll about bedtimes

I'm here with DD (9 today) who says that it is normal for nine year olds to go to bed at 9 pm. I don't think IABU when I say it is earlier than that especially on a school night. So, quick poll, what is bedtime for variously aged children?

dd, nearly 7 is in bed for 8pm

7 yo DSD is in bed by 8 on a school night. 9 on the weekend.

I have 2 DDs, aged 9 and 7 and no matter what day of the week it is they go up at 7.30, have the bedtime routine including being read to, then are allowed 15-20 minutes solo reading time and then lights out at 8.15ish. This routine only changes on those rare occasions when there is a family do that involves a meal out, and then only if this meal happens at half-term or weekends.
I'm probably draconian, but then my two have to be up at 6am for the breakfast club/work routine - and they 1) sleep like logs and 2) do very well at school so it must be working for them.
9pm on a weeknight? No way.

Mine are not that old they are 4 and 6. They both go to bed at 7pm to 7.30pm - maybe 8ish on the weekend but as it doesn't make any difference to the time they wake up which is 6.30am, so it just feels that keeping them up, they then miss out on sleep at the weekend.

I really feel that they need sleep of at least 11 hours - no doubt that changes as they get older but I still went to bed at about 8pm right up until I was 13!

My dd is 4 and goes to bed at 7pm, sometimes a bit earlier to make sure she is asleep at 7pm if she seems very tired.

my DS is 9yo his schoolnight bedtime is 8.30pm but is creeping to 9pm most nights tbh.

weekends is 9 - 9.30 ish

sounds like thats later than most here but about average among kids I know

My 2 are 8 & 10.

Bedtime has been moved to 9pm. For ds2 this is because of football training during the week that doesn't finish to 8.30 one night and 8pm another night.

Ds1 gets sent up at 9 but gets to read for 10mins or so.

They are allowed to stay up later friday and sat, but most times ds2 is still nodding off at 9pm

My bedtime was 9pm from age 7, but this was unusual. Was a cultural thing. Most of my British classmates went to bed 7pm to 8.30pm.

DD1 is 9, 10 in December. Lights out at about 8 on a school night, weekends can be any time depending on how well behaved they have been and what's on TV! DD2 is 6 and goes at 7.30 and DD3 is 11 months and in bed for 7.

Have 2 13 yo's, bedtime is 9.30pm on a schoolnight and wasn't 9pm until they were at least 11. Weekends can be up to 11pm.
My DS needs at least 9 hours sleep or he is monstrous

My bedtime was 9pm when I was at secondary school until I left home to go to uni
even in the uni Hols my mum who goes to bed at 9.30 and reads til ten would come in to say good night and suggest I thought about going to bed

DD- 8yrs old goes up about 7.30-8pm and reads for 15 mins before turning her light off.

And then gets up 15 times because she is hot/cold/thirsty/bad dream/sore throat/needs a wee/can't find something/wants a hot water bottle etc. etc.

DD is 7 and goes to bed at 8pm. She's allowed to read for a while but is normally asleep by 8.30pm at the very latest.

8.30 for mine on a school night when they were 9. By secondary school, I would not have a set bedtime, but would drop hints if I thought they were staying up too long for their own good.

I try to get my 9 year old in bed between 8-8.30, he can then read in bed if he wants to. I think it really depends on how much sleep an individual child needs but certainly, you can say 'go to your room and read' - at least you then get some quiet time on your own.

What time does your DS get up? Does he wake naturally or need to be woken up? My DS wakes naturally at 7am so I guess he is getting the right amount of sleep.

DC in their rooms for 8pm(ish), I go to bed/sleep about 8:45 pm and I don't really know when DC (8 & 10) turn out the lights; as long as they don't give me grief about getting up in the mornings, I can live with it.

My 9 year old is upstairs at 7 and he can read or watch telly in our room until 8. He can stay up sometimes until 8.30-9pm but not every night, maybe once or twice a week.

Our 5 year old goes to bed at 7 and our 7 year old goes 7.30-7.40pm.
