Dilemma regarding teething versus sleep habit

My 18 month old son has always been a relatively good teether, with 4 teeth coming in one go and a week of bad nights till he settles again!

However the last two weeks the 4 canines have been coming through all of which are through now and so he had some terrible nights off teething and my husband was able to settle him fast by sleeping on the floor in his room. My husband's method, though effective is also a bit of the short cut method to settling our son and nothing else now but dad sleeping in his room is helping him settle and its been two weeks now!
I am worried that we have created a habit and the teething has now passed, but am not 100%sure either as are the canines bad while they still continue to come out?
My son waking on the dot at 9:00 and 12:00 and 4:00 and it feels like a habit now after 10 days of exact waking by the clock.
Not sure what to do e.g. controlled crying or another way for us to settle him?
Any advice really welcome.
Thanks

no idea but will watch with interest as we may be going the same way with DS!

As far as I know, once the teeth break the skin they don't hurt any more. I think it might be a habit....

How is he during the day? Does he still have his fingers in his mouth? If he does then perhaps he has some molars coming now (poor him, poor you...)

I did CC with DD when she was a lot younger and it worked within 2 nights, but since then she has always slept through so I'm afraid I have no experience of CC an 18mo. Probably would try it if it were me though

Sorry, this is a bit of a late reply so I hope things have started to sort themselves out in the meantime - but apparently it is quite common for sleep to go to pot at 18 months. DD is only 16 months so I haven't had direct experience yet but she definitely went through the other common sleep regressions (at 4 and 9 months) so I doubt we'll be spared this one!

If you'd like more info there are lots of threads with useful advice on the Sleep board, or you could google '18 month sleep regression'. I have read that sleep training can be pretty ineffective during these periods so if you can hang in there with your DH's current methods that might be easiest all round?

Hope you get through this soon, whatever's causing it.
