Is this movie suitable for 9 yr olds? (Scott Pilgrim vs The World)

My 9 yr old twin boys have been invited to a movie party, which we've accepted, only to now discover that the movie in question is Scott Pilgrim Vs the World.

From what I can detect on the web, this is a 12A movie and my twins have never seen anything above a PG rating and are only recently 9 (it's a turning-t0 yr old party). It seems to be a movie full of violence and allusions to lesbians and dating/ sex etc.

Am I wrong and has anyone seen the movie? Would your 9 yr old son enjoy it/ understand it/ be freaked out by it?

I may just be being an old fuddy-duddy....

i am very relaxed about content of films, but no, it wouldn't be suitable for a 9yr old, mainly because they won't 'get' the film, there are some obvious refrences to sex, and a lot of violence, a lot of violence.
Just because its filmed ala comic stylie doesn't mean it has been marketed for pre teen boys, maybe the Bday boy's parents should be told this.

I wouldn't let a 9yo see it.

Thanks. In fact I mentioned my concerns to the parents and they said others were also worried and so the party will view a different movie with a PG rating - much more suitable.

I have seen it and don't think it's 'full of violence' or will give him nightmares but I just think a 9 year old boy would find it quite boring. Lots of comic book allusions, obscure 80s gaming / manga references, indie music and relationship drama. I really think it's for nerds in their 30s - much like me.

As for a nine year old seening 'allusions to lesbians' Hmm

seeing

Really TondelayoSchwarzkpof?
Im a pretty agressive person and have not been sheltered at all in my life and i found the violence to be very frequent, admitidley there isn't blood and gore on show, but lots of actual physical fighting.
I would let a 12yr old see it TBH either, it would be inappropriate IMHO.

Hmm. I should admit that part of my job is watching extreme horror films so maybe my senses have been blunted. Grin

lol, makes sense :)
am [jealous] of your job though!
How'd you bag that one?
