Night Wailing - is it normal?

My 9 month old DS wails in his sleep. It sounds as if he is in pain. It seems to happen more at night however he will do it once during a two hour nap.

I am not sure if he is doing it as he comes to an end of sleep cycle and doesnt want to wake up or if he is in pain.

I know sometimes he is also uncomfortable with teeting but the wailing happens every night a couple of times and has done for a couple of month. He is very happy and active during the day though.

My concern is that its food related and I dont really know where to start with diagnosis... I had a referral from my GP on a seperate matter and the waiting time was over two months so I am not holding out too much hope there.

Sorry, very wooley thread - anyone any ideas?

Our dd does this too. Not during daytime naps, but often during the night there'll be one loud wail and then nothing - if we go in she's fast asleep and perfectly fine! She's done it since she was a few months old.

DS does this sometimes too most frequent was the week before he got his first tooth but he does it say once a week on a night and occasionally in daytime naps too......
