How many godparents do you have for your DC and who - family/ good friend/ someone with similar parenting style to you??
Also when did you ask them - when pregnant or when DC arrived?

My DD has 4 godparents; two couples who were good friends of ours at the time (still are, although one couple now divorced). Asked them after DD was born.

We specifically did not select family as to me the idea of godparents were to extend my DD's family circle. In my mind family members already have roles as aunts, uncles, etc.

We chose good friends of ours. One couple had a baby at the time; the other no children at the time.

we had a non religious naming ceremony, but we also went with the 'non-family' rule

we just had one couple for each

DS has 4, 2 are close friends and the other 2 are family

We were traditional and had two if the same sex as the DC, and one of the opposite. One for each was a relative (well, one in-law, and one a cousin just turned 18), and t'other 2 friends.

But there's nothing to stop you having the number or degree of kin you want.

Our Vicar required them all to have been baptized themselves, but wasn't fussed about which denomination.

I wouldn't ask anyone until after the baby is born.

We had my best friend who I've known since I was 2 and my BIL. We had BIL cos we felt we had to as DP had been his best man and we thought MIL would kick off if we didn't. In fairness I think we would have asked him anyway.

DP thought at the time we should have asked his SIL (BILs wife) instead of my friend for the same anti-kickoff reason but was overrulled!! Smile

We didn't ask anyone until we were planning the Christening.

The Minister didn't ask about whether we were all baptised or not.
