My DS's face has erupted in spots all over his face today. Some are reddish pimples and some have white heads!!! Should I be worried?

I have checked the rest of his body and he is clear every where else.

I don't know what to do. Any ideas????

Don't panic! Baby acne is really normal, something to do with hormones working themselves out after being in utero. Someone told me they can actually be worse in breastfed babies but I don't know if that's true. If it's a rash that doesn't disappear under pressure or if there's a fever at all, then do get him checked out but if it looks just like teenage acne then bizarrely it basicall is!

It is just baby acne - unsightly but nothing is wrong :)

I just used Dermol on DS' face to make sure they didn't get infected or sore if he scratched them.

They are probably just milk spots. Most babies get them as their skin is quite delicate and new. Don't squeeze them, just clean your DS's fce with warm water and they will go away by themselves.

Congratulations on your new DS Smile

thank you so much. Alot of that makes sense. He is being breastfed and most of the spots are around his chin and cheeks.

It's just so hard when its your first child, I find that I worry about the slightest thing, so thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Yep, my DD had these for about 2 weeks. We just used warm water and cotton wool and they cleared up really well.

My DDs spots persisted for nearly 6 months untill we changed to non bio washing powder.

They're normal. Can last a few weeks. Usually look a bit like this.

Only put water on them, nothing else. No lotions, potions or creams. They very occasionally get infected and need a tiny bit of hydrocortisone to clear them up. But he'd be distressed by them if this was the case.

They look worse when they're angry or hot.

Don't worry, it looks worse than it is!

All three of my DSs had these. The eldest did need a bit of hydrocortisone cream to clear them up - check with your GP if in doubt. They didn't go for ages in my youngest and when I was at the GP for something else she prescribed aqueous cream and they disappeared very quickly. But generally they clear up on their own and are caused by left over hormones from the placenta - if you don't like the term Baby Acne they can be called milk spots!
