PGCE Application help please!

Hi

I'm due to apply to do a PGCE in the next couple of weeks commencing Sept. 06. The institution I wish to do it at (and really the only one that I can go to without moving house!) is a highly commended one, and therefore it's apparently quite hard to get in. My application therefore needs to be as good as possible! The prospectus of this institution states that it would like to see 'knowledge of National Curriculum and Numeracy and Literacy Strategies'. I've spent ages searching the web, as there's plenty of information regarding this, but it's very in depth with lesson/term plans, etc. Has anyone any recent experience of applying for a PGCE, and if so, what level of knowledge were you expected to have of the NC at application stage? By the way, I'm applying for a Primary PGCE with an emphasis upon Key Stage 2.
Also, any other tips would be appreciated!

Have you any experience of working in school where this takes place? How about voluntary work for an afternoon to give you a taster? I know they look for experience either in school or governing body. Presumably you would need to know the legal requirements etc. That's about my knowledge limit!! Alternatively ring them ask them what are they looking for experience wise. Good luck!
