Baby acne

My DS is 25 days old and in the past few days has broken out in acne all over his little face.

It looks awful - red pustules all over his nose, cheeks, forehead and eyelids. I've looked online and it seems to be normal but will make a Dr appointment just to be on the safe side.

Has anyone any experience of this and how to get rid of it? I live in Belgium where they are very eager to hand out medication and I don't really like the thought of him having to take antibiotics or anything. Thank you!

You just need to leave it alone if it is baby acne. It will clear itself in time, just use plain water on his skin to clean it and it will sort itself out in a few weeks.

Ds had this as a baby (11yrs now) leave it alone as oops has said , it will eventually clear up by itself . we were referred to a skin specialist with ds but nothing could be done tbh & his skin was clear by the time he turned one .

Dr appt not really necessary, although you could ask your HV if you're really worried?

It does clear up on its own, as oops says just don't use any products on it.

my ds developed it at about 4 weeks went by time he was 6 months. was a shock but he was fine.

I think this is quite normal - most babies break-out in a rash/spots around 4-6 weeks - usually gone in a few weeks. Obviously if you are upset about it go to the docs or see your midwife. My health visitor called it the 'planet earth' rash Hmm It will be fine - you just will delete any pictures you take!

Hi two of my friends little ones got this and she creamed thier faces with sudocrem as she reasoned if it ok for baby bottoms it must be ok and it worked both times. Worth a try.
Don't know if you can get it in Belgium if not am sure 500 mumsnetters have spare pots Smile

My son's face was covered in spot, the GP told me he had a very bad case of baby acne. I went abroad to visit family and took him to the doctor there and she told me to wash his face everyday using baby liquid soap and a sponge. The acne was gone in less than 1 week! Maybe it is worth a try.

Thanks for the answers. I have been washing his face in cooled boiled water for the past day instead of with the usual baby soap. I also tried a bit of sudocream on a small part of his face to test if that works.

He looks really awful - almost like a smallpox victim it is that bad Sad
