What are you getting your 4 year old DS's for Christmas ??

I am looking for some inspiration!

So far I have got both DS's (2 & almost 4) some Thomas Take Along Die Cast engines as they love their trains.

Other than that I am thinking of getting DS1 (4) maybe some of the 4+ Lego, potentially one of those Leapster / Leapfrog game things for fun and a bit of learning ?

Also DS1 has shown an interest in the Imaginext stuff so may look into that.

What are others getting and can I steal some of your ideas ?

Sounds like he's getting plenty already!

TheUnmentioned · 03/09/2010 13:17

DS wants the buzz lightyear digital camera, maybe that.

He will be 4 2 days before xmas so gets loads from everyone so tbh I dont wnat to buy much!!

He wants lego but I think he's too careless little to keep it altogether properly and not have a tantrum when one tiny piece is lost so I dont think he'll get that.

I'm pregnant and when baby comes he will be getting a deluxe buzz lightyear.

Have 4 ds and that sounds pretty similar to what they have got at that age; lego etc. Another great thing is kinnex the kid kinnex one not the more complicated one my boys have got great use out of it and we've added to it over time. Another great toy we got is a wooden castle, think ours was from the elc. Its really robust we've had ours 4 years and its been played with alot.

Ds1 (just 5 at Xmas) will be getting some lego and a new scooter. May not sound like much but I was Shock at the price of lego, even secondhand. And its the sort of toy that you need a fair bit of to make it fun.

didldidi · 03/09/2010 20:00

that new leapster explorer looks good and my four year old loves computer games/learning

DilysPrice · 03/09/2010 20:03

Leapfrog/Leapster is the work of the devil.

Micro scooters are brilliant if they don't have one but it depends on whether it fits into your lifestyle.

A big starter box of Lego is unbeatable - they'll play with it for years and years and years and if it's not a specific model then it doesn't matter too much if a bit or two gets lost. Or look for a job lot second hand and put it in a nice set of plastic drawers - most of our basic Lego came second hand one way or another.

My ds who will be 4 on boxing day will be getting a leapster for his birthday and he and his brother will be sharing a castle and knights which i got off ebay second hand for christmas. other stuff will be leapster games (ds1 who is six in march ADORES his and has learned loads with it), lego, and probably some playmobile pirate stuff.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/09/2010 20:06

Vtech Camera and maybe some little stocking fillers.

Urbanvoltaire · 04/09/2010 00:13

My OH went out today for some bits and bobs and cae back with a Hornby train set for 4yo xmas - v surprised at his proactivity and sofar in advance! DS heavily into trains above all other forms of transport.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 04/09/2010 00:56

you know that train set is really for your OH, dont you, Voltaire? Grin

My two boys (3&6) love lots of little things, and love all the old traditional toys.Like this, and this.Very cheap but they are still playing with these kinds of toys now from last christmas! We have alot of this stuff, and I am getting the skipping rope and dominoes this year.If we are ever out at someones house and there is a skipping rope they go nuts for it! The cup and ball is brillant-for grown ups too! Also getting these, and him,who was on sale for £10! Think the scooter is a good idea too.

youremindmeofthebabe · 05/09/2010 09:17

My ds will be getting playmobil fire truck and a new bike. His birthday is in November, and he might get a replica Woody for that.

mamadiva · 05/09/2010 09:26

DS will be 4.6YO at christmas and he is getting-

The 2 Grufallo books
2x Power Rangers transformers
Giant snakes & ladders
Power Rangers dress up
2 wheeler BMX scooter (on sale quite cheaply and I don't like small wheels)

Am going to ask family to buy-
ELC easel
Leapfroog fridge phonics

May seem a lot but as I say it is shared out amongst family so won't be on top of anything else.

Although I will probably buy some bits and pieces for stocking, just have'nt decided what!

mamadiva · 05/09/2010 09:30

Oh meant to say those of you who are buying VTECH camera, they may be kid tough but they WILL NOT live if yo9u get them wet!!!

Ours worked for a grand total of 3 months before DS decided to give the screen a wipe under the bathroom tap Shock:o

roastedfox · 05/09/2010 11:13

ds will be 4.6 at xmas. brought a HUGE lot of lego off ebay for him & younger ds who will be 3. also planning on either getting him a micro scooter or a bike and then a couple of small toys for his stocking.
woopsidaisy - fab couple of sites, am def getting the boys an aeroplane Smile they will love it

colditz · 05/09/2010 11:15

A Mr Potato Head costume

IAPJJLPJ · 05/09/2010 20:42

My ds2 will be 3.5 yrs and having an older brother means we have EVERYTHING already and so I was going to get him a leapster hand held game thingy. But my hubby said why when we could get him a second hand ds lite for the same price and use the games we already have. Also ds2 can then watch films on it too!!

I have also got him a couple of foam animal masks and a crazy gold set which was reduced in ELC.

We already have a wii and the clickstart computer so I really struggle to think of things as I refuse to buy presents just for the sake of it

Flowergarden1 · 05/09/2010 20:52

Probably some Lego, certainly some books, possibly a castle.

IAPJJLPJ · 06/09/2010 08:06

meant to say "crazy golf set" although would prefer gold.....

IAPJJLPJ · 06/09/2010 08:14
