Do you have a system for toys?!

There are so many toys in my living room and my DS hardly ever plays with any of them (15 months) prefering to play with household objects. I was just wondering if any one was organised enough to have a toy system. E.g. do you rotate the toys available to your child. The reason I ask is that I saw a program a few months ago and the mum has organised the toys into groups. For example, push and pull toys on one day, building toys on another. Sorry if I sound like a nutter. Just interested to see how others manage a toy mountain :o

I bought loads of storage boxes from IKEA and have sorted the toys after a fashion (plastic food, plastic vehicles, stacking toys) and try and rotate as much as possible.

It does work to an extent and it means DC can actually see the wood for the trees when it comes to toys!

I'm also ruthless about clearing out and getting rid of things that have not been played with for months. Either in the loft or out of the house!

Good luck - I feel your pain!

DS' toys fit into 3 boxes, so I just tidy them up into the nearest box and always have two boxes downstairs and one upstairs. Change them around when he seems to be bored with the old ones. I don't put them in categories - what a waste of time!

2 trofast units, one downstairs, one upstairs. Swap over random boxes fairly frequently, then everything gets played with/

Depends on your DS Bertie! Grin

Mine likes to know he can find certain things and he knows which box they're in.

We have a ridiculous amount of toys - we were the last of our friends to have kids and they have all generously dumped handed on their toys to us Blush.

If we didn't sort them we would never find anything!

I used to rotate, now I sling in the nearest trofast I can find.

Hang in there, as your dc's get older, their toys get smaller. It's a miracle!

You end up with lots of boxes of very small very special treasure. Like old torches and beads that have snapped. Hmm

Ah OK, fair enough. DS is only 23 months so doesn't seem to insist on playing with one particular thing.

And we don't have that many toys yet.

I swap the toys round once in a while. Put some away and get new ones out.
Wouldn't say it was a system though...
