How to give him medicine?

DS (15mo) hates having to get medicine - nothing regular just calpol or benylin if/when requried. He doesnt need to get it very often as has rarely been ill but he has alwasy hated it but recently he learned to spit it out.

We use a syringe as he wont open his mouth enough to get the spoon in and even then we have to wait til he opens his mouth to cry before we can pop the syringe in. I am at the stage of giving up and not bothering but I know it will make him feel better if he is miserable (has horrible cold, cough, croaky throat at the mo). This morning when we tried he literally spat out the whole lot.

Does anyone have any tips? I know this must be common but what can we do?

Hi
We used to put the calpol in dc's milk with some milkshake powder, calpol has a fairly pleasant strawberry flavour anyway.
I never tried to give them cough medicines as I've yet to find one that works so I can't help you with that sorry.

my DS was like this, i found using a spoon but just pouring into his cheek pouch meant he couldn't spit it out!
