If you've got time, you can tease out one or two hairs at a time from the knot. It can be done. Good luck...

Hairdresser!! I wouldn't even touch it myself. Let your DD be pissed off with the hairdresser not you!!

MrsBadger · 31/08/2010 10:42

yep, hand detangling

sit in front of tv and work on it one strand ata time

and (I speak from experience) if it has food / jam etc in, damp it so it starts to dissolve before you start work

Would drizzling or spraying it with olive oil help?

LadyBiscuit · 31/08/2010 10:50

Put conditioner on it and then do it slowly. It should come out. Can you tie her hair back to stop her doing it in future (may be a bit difficult with a 2 year old I appreciate!)

Not a big J&J fan, BUT the Johnsons & Johnsons Detangling spray and/or cream are brilliant at helping get the knots out of my 2yo DDs curly hair EVERY morning....We make a game of it saying that mice were dancing the tango in her hair overnight or for a big knot that it was alligators trying to eat her hair up (a la Where the Wild Things Are) and if I accidentally pull too hard, it's "Oops, did Mommy not put enough tangle spray in? Here let's use more.."

Good Luck! :)

My dd got chewing gum in her hair and it was ahuge tangle. I googled and believe it or n ot peanut butter took out the gum and the knot! Olive oil would probably work too but there is a novelty factotr with peanut butter that might keep a 2 year old amused.

I use the tangle teezer brush on DD's very unruly curly hair, along with the Johnsons detangling spray, works a treat! Before this I had to resort to cutting 2 very big dreadlocks out of her hair Blush

PinkyBurgerhead · 31/08/2010 12:38

Yes, first take out all the hairs that aren't really knotted, just joining in. Hopefully it'll be much smaller than it looks!

mummytime · 31/08/2010 12:45

We Use the Aussie stay in conditioner, even better than the Johnson and Johnsons kids stuff. Sit in front of the TV and slowly does it. (Even worse when you really need to nit comb afterwards.)

Oblomov · 31/08/2010 12:48

i get knots. like others say, just tease some of the hairs out, a few at a time. then when i can't be bothered anymore and have got most of it out, i just cut the remaining knot out. simple. no harm done.

Ineed2 · 31/08/2010 17:34

Dd3 had one this morning, I did the easing a few hairs out at a time thing, when I thought i was nearly there the rest of the knot came out in my hand. Her hair is sooo thick it won't matter but its a night mare o keep it knot free.
Good luck.

Loads and loads of conditioner in wet hair and a tangle teezer.

thisiswhataluv · 31/08/2010 20:50

thank everyone for the replies, i slathered the knot in johnsons baby conditioner and used a comb to get the majority out, then i had to chop off the big knot Blush
