I think this Mum was crap, do you?

I was at a wedding earlier. A 14 year old lad was messing with a glow stick which bust and the liquid shot into his eye.
my freind and me helped him into the kitchen, and we gave him an eye bath.
I rang NHS direct to ask what to do, and they said to take him to A&E. The lady who's wedding it was said it was looking better, and heould be ok not to go. I got the feeling that she didn't want the disruption in the middle of her wedding.
The boy did look better. I thought that I ought to tell his Mum what NHS advised. When I eventually found her, she couldn't have cared less and said he was ok.
I asked my freind where the Mum was when it happened and she had been there. So she let two strangers help her son into the house, administer first aid and not even come inside.

Was she drunk / been drinking? Not that that would excuse her behaviour but it would go some way to explaining it.

I would always follow NHS direct advice but they do always IME say your should visit A&E. Very odd behaviour to not administer first aid to your child or at least be present.

I agree that NHS Direct do seem to always say go to A&E but how would the mum know if he really needed to go if she didn't get off her butt and at least check. She sounds like she was having too much fun at the wedding to care about her child.

I can't imagine how any mother could act in such a careless way. I agree with Curlybrunette sounds like a right lazy cow!

Actually I'd think the mum was wrong, drunk or not, having the best time or not, if you squirt chemicals in your eyes it can have nasty side effects and with the best will in the world, rinsing out your eyes is not going to counter all of that.
