Thumb sucking

Any advice or ideas to help stop thumb sucking. It is for me, I'm 35 and have 2 dd 3 and 1y and do not want then to be embarrassed of me. Also dd2 sucks her thumb and need to stop before she needs to stop. Will power alone is not enough. The trouble is that it helps me relax and I also do it with out realising.

I sucked my thumb until the night ds was born. I had similar issues with not really wanting to give up, but not wanting ds to be embarrassed by me either.

I remember reading that it takes three weeks to make a habit. Therefore if you can stop for three weeks the not sucking habit should become more ingrained. It was the only thing that worked for me - the three week goal. Having made it that far, I don't want to start again (although I wouldn't mind now!). Having stopped on his birth day did help though.

Ds sucks his thumb. I am torn between letting him (the main reason I sucked m thumb for so long was becuase adults/ teachers/ dentist etc told me I should stop and I hated the way I was told it was babyish etc. so I continued to prove them wrong - often deliberately in front of them). I wonder whether to leave it and see if he stops of his own accord (as he gets so much comfort from it). Or whether to try another route...

Im 24 and I still do it every night apparently, not that I am aware.. although when im stressed it is a comfort but I didnt realise I did it every night. I dont do it to get to sleep, but DP has often woken to see me do it Blush
