Cleaning babies belly button

Baby is accumulating grot in her belly button. How on earth do I get it out? DP is currently having a go (very carefully) with a small screwdriver but that is making me very nervous.

Any suggestions for a less scary method. I'm not sure a cotton bud would work as it is in the cracks IYSWIM, hence why my fingers weren't much good.

Drop droplets of cooled boiled water onto the belly button to soften up the 'grot'. Gently tease out with the corner of a folded clean handkerchief (or similar) anything that comes loose. Repeat at intervals. Don't dig otherwise it will become sore.
I personally wouldn't let anyone near with a screwdriverShock

I also used to trail wet pieces of cotton wool across the belly button and that sometimes lifted any dirt.

Not sure how old your baby is but if only early days be careful that you are not trying to clean the scab off the belly button as it will bleed. Also make sure that it is dry after you've cleaned.

You can wash it with a baby bath gel and a flannel.

a screwdriver? really?

cotton bud and olive oil worked well here.

She's three months, and DP was very careful Grin

Mind you - given what I found inside my belly button when I was pregnant...
