I am in absolute agony with an infection caused my my wisdom tooth. Been to the dentist today who has given me antibiotics and a referral to the hospital. Was keeping sane with the kids this morning but i lost it this afternoon and boy did i lose it! I put a video on for them and asked them to watch quietly while mummy had a rest next to them but my 4 yr old wouldn't behave and shortly after my 7yr old wound me up to. End result..i shouted like i've never heard even myself and the 4 yr old got a smack (i rarely smack. What made it worse was after when i tried to explain how yuk i was feeling my 4 yr old started asking if i was going to leave him. I once flipped out and threatened to put on my shoes and coat and walk out and he never forgot it (sob. Oh god what a crap mummy.

We have all been there. Your children will forgive you for being human, don't worry. You must be a good, caring mum to be so upset with yourself over this. Hope you feel better soon.

Your not crap, your human - Hope your tooth feels better soon x

linzoid you are NOT a crappy mummy. You lost it - we all do it once in a while. But you had a reason. It's when you lose it for no reason you should worry. Don't dwell on it. Were you all friends again by bedtime? If not tomorrows another day. Hope you are feeling better soon.

linzoid, it happens and it really doesn't matter, I have resorted to fishwife behavoiur more times than I would have liked.
I hope the tooths better sson, anti biotics usually woke soooo fast, you'll be as good as new in the morning!

linzoid · 28/07/2003 22:04

thanks everyone, hopefully the antibiotics will have kicked in by tomorrow and i will be able to tolerate their behaviour better. Dp is working away tomorrow so i will be trying extra hard to keep my cool...no one to come rescue me at tea-time...

linzoid if it is pericoronitis (inflammation around the crown of a partially erupted tooth ) you may get some additional relief from bathing your mouth with hot slightly salty water. Hold a mouthful of the water in your mouth around the sore gum for a few minutes at a time.
Don't be tempted to hold a hot water bottle to the side your face though.
Hope you feel better soon, and don't waste another moment feeling guilty.

I second jasper's advice - had terrible abcess trouble a year or so ago, and cocktails of paracetamol and ibuprofen wouldn't kill the pain, neat vodka mouthwashes wouldn't kill the pain, the only thing that gave me enough relief to allow me to sleep was warm salt mouthwash. Don't feel bad about shouting - as everyone says, you are human! Hope you feel better soon x
