Dd is being teased

I found out recently that dd1 (9) is being teased at school over a couple of specific things. Firstly she has dark hair on her arms which she is very self-conscious about and a couple of kids have made comments. She's very upset (about the teasing and the actual hair).

The other thing is, she has a big gap between her top two front teeth which is also a cause for teasing. Our dentist has told us she will need a brace in due course but that doesn't really help her now (plus she's getting a bit worked up about the whole brace thing).

I don't know if this is part and parcel of kids being kids, or if it's something I should speak to the school about. Dd is generally a happy girl but she is also sensitive and these are quite personal comments.

Any thoughts?

I think that some kids will tease other kids about anything - with me it was, I was fat, posh, goody 2-shoes, swot. My sister was very similar to me (fat, posh-sounding and a swot) but was also very good at defending herself, funny and feisty so she didn't get teased. It is really horrible that your DD is getting teased but I think finding coping strategies will help her deal with all sorts of stuff that life will throw at her later. Good luck to your dd and you.

Assuming this is repeated teasing rather than a couple of "one off" comments, I think it would definitely be the right thing to speak to the school so that they are aware of the problem.
