Children playing in the street

I am all for letting children have freedom but I don't think 6-7 years olds should be out unaccompanied in the road on bikes and scooters. All summer kids from my son's school (so I know their ages) have been out in the road opposite (one way reasonably busy road) playing and they often come out onto our road too. Our road is a side road to a main road, it is quite busy and the people using it tend to speed down it. The way they are playing makes me worry that there will be accident soon. There are also quite a few dodgy people around here too.

There are no parents out watching and I know they live further down the road so there is no way the parents could be watching from their houses. Not really sure why I am writing this but just feel this is wrong but there doesn't seem to be any law about this kind of thing. Even though leaving kids alone at home at this age would be illegal wouldn't it? (I think?).

I disagree with you, I think. I've always felt that one of the huge huge problem of our time is that children have lost their own space, free time/space to be children & be with other children, with no adults around. That's something that in the past we took for granted, and nowadays for various reasons it's almost unheard of to see young children unaccompanied in the street playing. So I actually find it quite nice & refreshing that these kids are playing there. I'm sure playing like that on their own teaches them good street sense too.
