Please help - I've just been out for 1.5 hours leaving 11yo DS in the house alone. He has spent the whole time watching porn on Youtube :(

How on earth do I approach this? I knew it would happen sometime, but 11?? Do I block Youtube now? Stop him going on the computer when I'm not here? He doesn't know I know btw.

Any advice gratefully received.

I feel sick :(

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure porn is not allowed on YouTube...

CaptainKirksNipples · 12/08/2010 12:37

He is being curious and I think he is probably better watching sexy scenes from films than watching actual porn at that age tbh. Youtube don't have porn on the site.

How did you find out?

goldenticket · 12/08/2010 12:41

I looked at the history (I know, I know) and it was all big tits, sexy girls etc etc. Do they really not have porn on there? Have to say, I didn't look at them, couldn't face it.

You could type in 'sex' and get millions of videos. But they wouldn't show people actually having sex/penetration/anything hardcore. More likely just what you would see on the tv after watershed.

Oh ok, that helps a lot, thank you

Do you think I should watch them, just in case?

If it was only YouTube, although there is some close-to-the-knuckle stuff on there, there is no actual porn

It may depend on your definition of porn, though and exactly what you are OK with your 11yo being exposed to

Time for "the talk", I think, OP...or, another one Smile

Doodlez · 12/08/2010 13:43

I think you should put a program called K9 on your PC and take some bloody control over what your child is doing on the PC!!!

here. Do it NOW!!!

goldenticket · 12/08/2010 13:49

Oh Doodlez that's not fair - he's got a seperate profile which has got parental protection set up on it. I wasn't aware (perhaps naively) that there was porn or anything approaching it on Youtube, so I'm guilty on that count.

However, I'll have a good look at K9 with a view to installing it - thank you.

Can it be installed on mobiles do you know?

AnyFucker · 12/08/2010 13:53

gt...please tell me your 11yo doesn't have a mobile phone with internet access !! Shock

Doodlez · 12/08/2010 13:53

Dunno about mobiles Golden - not got that far with mine yet (only 9 and 7).

Relax - am only snippy because the little girl next door has access to PC with no parental controls or supervision and my oh my what she's taught my two children over the last few months. I'm bleedin' FURIOUS!!!!!! I've been round and practically ripped the heads off the 2 gormless parents she's been lumbered with.

Don't think I'll be up for the UK's best neighbour award any time soon Grin

Give you and any adult in the house passwords to their accounts and set your DS up with massive parental controls. I would try to allow internet usage for just a few sites, like CBBC/BBC etc. My DS (8) logged onto my account and typed 'fucking' into Google....what he clicked on was too explicit, mostly, for him to comprehend what he was seeing.

I think there are times when you have to allow your dcs the opportunity to come to you, if he doesn't take it then you must go to him. Honestly I am not in the 'boys need to masterbate and therefore we must allow them to explore porn' by my oldest is only 8Grin.

lilmissmummy · 12/08/2010 13:55

Definitely ban YouTube my children only have access to certain websites, he can look at youtube with parental supervision.

I would talk to him about it as maybe he is curious about sex and possibly has some questions. Also explain why you dont think Youtube is suitable and thats why you are banning it from him until he is 16??? 18?? whatever you decide.

Children are curious about these things (my ds aged 9 stares at the bra models in the catalogues! :)

That K9 looks great Doodlez.
