We're just going to Ireland but wondering if his ears will get sore from the pressure. I've heard this happens to them. Does it always happen and how can I help him if it does? He doesn't have a bottle anymore so cant suck on that. Any advice welcome!

Only really if they have a cold but you can give him a sweet or lolly of some description for takeoff and landing and that might help.

It really depends on the child and the altitude you are dropping from - both of mine have been fine (touch wood)

Thanks Omni, he does have a mild cold and had an awful nosebleed last night that took a whole toilet roll to mop up so I'm hoping that wont erupt again tomorrow. Good idea about the lolly.

Dd2 is 3.5 and she has just been on plane for the first time. Her ears didn't bother her. Dd1 (6) told me her ears felt 'oddly' so I told her to hold her nose and blow. She did. She was fine.

When dd1 was 18 months old we took her to Spain. We bough lollies for take off and landing like omnishambles suggested. She was fine.
