Why do people try to police the internet ?

Dear mums net users why do you try to police something that is not yours to police. The Internet is the one of the few dwindling places in the world where true freedom of speech exists. I have a theory to why this is. I believe you try to police the Internet because you lack the common sense to surpass your social mediocrity, To what i mean by this is that instead of "keeping up with the Joneses" with wrapping your middle class bratty children in wool in your "perfect-Eco-friendly big society " and are truly worried about "protecting" your children from the dangerous porn filled Internet then TURN IT OFF and give it back to the basement dwelling geeks like me

ha ha ha ha ha.

Do you work for coca-cola or something?

notnowbernard · 24/07/2010 21:22

Right you are, Dear

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 24/07/2010 21:23

Ha ha ha ha haaaaa.

Thank you. You have just made an overdue grumpy woman laugh quite a lot.

Off to enjoy being socially mediocre now, whatever the fuck that means. At least I can punctuate.

THIS!
SO CORRECT!

Honeydragon · 14/01/2012 22:26

I'm confused don't we normally have threads on here bemoaning the pointlessness of censoring the net and using common sense instead?

Holy Fuck maybe I've strayed onto Netmums! Shock

Hassled · 14/01/2012 22:26

I gather from your profile that you like your Warhammer. That's nice for you. How big is your basement? How many Warhammer figurines can you set up in it?

I am a bit confused though. How exactly are parental controls affecting you? Is your basement in the bottom of your parents' house?

Hassled · 14/01/2012 22:42

oh c'mon, crashandburn, I'm agog here.

Emmielu · 24/01/2012 19:37

I hate diet coke. It's tasteless. Just thought I'd say that since cola was mentioned. Made me thirsty too!

Tamlev13 · 17/07/2012 17:41

Right, attack the Original poster for liking a game that helps concentration and thinking skills, ok.
Anyway, looking at the threads here it's just "I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT MY OFFSPRING ARE PLAYING ON/AT/WITH, HOW DO I BAN THEM?!?!?!?!?!?"
Seriously, sure talk to them about what's online and tell them to keep away, but don't snoop on their Facebook (it's their privacy) block any site that looks remotely dangerous.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 17/07/2012 17:47

I hate diet cola too.

I like diet fanta though.

HTH :)

Pagwatch · 17/07/2012 17:47

Eh?

If I come back later will this thread make sense by then or will it be filled with green ink ramblings...

TantrumsAndBalloons · 17/07/2012 17:50

It didn't make any sense to me. The only part that made sense was the not liking diet coke thing so I replied to that Grin

mysweetie · 03/03/2013 11:34

I agree, if your too worried with your kids with their Iphones or Smart phones so don't give him/her any. But, if they needed it for communication, get a not so smart phones that is not supporting internet connection or those with no memory cards.

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 03/03/2013 11:41

Oh dear, someone's Mummy really needs to tighten up the parental controls on their internet.

Spudvic · 31/05/2013 19:37

Totally right!! Stop all this uber-protective mum cotton wool treatment!!

FaithLehane · 31/05/2013 19:42

This is a really weird zombie thread that seems to get resurrected every now and then. Confused It's 3 years old!

MultipleMama · 05/08/2013 01:06

I agree, mysweetie. I love my kids but the internet and it's dark side are for DH and I [gtin]. Until my kids turn 13+ they ain't touching the internet.
