Hi i am new here so please be gentle with me !
To cut a long post short !

I am unable to continue the relationship with my husband of 6 years - long story !

We have a daughter who is 5.

I have found a new place to live which is perfect for us at this difficult time. Its close to our current house but very private and will give us both some space and time to get ourselves into a routine ect ect.

I am worried about how i / we are going to tell her that me and her will be moving to a new house and that Daddy will not be living with us but she will see him every weekend and she can call him and talk to him during the week. We just will not be living together.

We dont row in front if her so she has no idea that there are problems, but i am sure she can sense things are not "right".

We have just drifted apart and being 29 and my husband 46 i have got to look to my future and that is on my own for the time being with my daughter.

Please help, i have just about got my head straight about things, but want to do the best and the easiest way for a 5 year old to understand.

I look forward to your help - Thank you

GingerBird x

I have no experience of this GingerBird didn't want you to go unanswered. I think if you explain things to her matter of factly I think at that age she will just take them in her stride. I guess you just need to stress that you both love her but the 2 of you can't be together anymore.

Thank you LauraKB

Its enough to get my head round everything and i know how low i have felt over the last few weeks i just want it to be, like you say matter or factly and easy for her to deal with.

She will think much less into it than you will I think. Tell her very simply and then answer questions she has honestly. Don't over explain.

Thank you The Pink one

When i asked her what makes her happy she said watching tv playing and when she is alowed a few sweets - sums life as a 5 yo up really ! Just me wanting to be gentle with her i guess!

i had to do this with ds1 when he was a bit younger - as other posters have said, i just tried to keep it very simple and factual - we are now going to be living here, daddy will see you on friday etc.

My parents split up when I was 6. The worst thing was not knowing what was going on. Things started disappearing from around the house and it was because my mum was packing them up to take to her mother's house. I remember asking her where the cotton wool had gone and she lied.

I wish she had been honest with me.
