PhD/student lp's?

Are there any lp students out there? I am in my final weeks of PhD. I think my dm (who looks after dd twice a week) has asked me almost everyday for the past six months 'have you finished yet?' (hmm) or 'do you really need to read another book?

Its been quite a journey. I have only just discovered this section of MN which really feels like voices from the dark. It can be very isolating studying all day at the library, on your own, and then coming home to look after dc, on your own and then the same all over again the next day.

There are good things too however, I feel in a way more motivated to finish to set an example to my dd and also to provide for her. However, it probably set me back two years from completion.

DD is just over two now. I am just putting the final pieces of my thesis together, after five years. Its really very boring like setting out a bibliography etc.

I totally sympathise with other threads that say that people don't respect you because its not 'work', even if you are paid.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

Hi charlielouie! congrats on getting to the point where you can see light at the end of the (long, long) tunnel!

I'm not an LP, but can symapthise with the annoyance of everyone asking if you're done yet - I finished my PhD earlier this year. I found even other students asking me this, ones that KNOW how long it takes to write up. One professor asked me 2 DAYS after I started writing if I was nearly done with the thesis, hahaha!! Followed by saying it shouldn't take me longer than a few weeks. Not sure what planet he was living on.

Must be a lot harder being an LP as well though, hats off to you!

I've just started writing up my second PhD - now I remember how much I hated it first time round . it's like childbirth - you forget how much it hurts!

Hi Whiteflame, Thanks for your support. When I do finish I will wear my cloak and hat for at least a week just to drum it into people that yes I have finished now!! I too have heard of the mythical writers up in a few weeks, its lies all lies.

Saintly? Two PhD's? You really are saintly, or else slightly mad. Best of luck to you.
