Motherease onesize is good, but needs an outer wrap. It goes very hard without a tumble dryer, but an ok nappy.

Bumgenius is my favourite, easy to use, so slim fitting, quick drying and just all round great.

Bumbles... never used so cannot comment.

Thanks like the look of bumgenius and think dh would aprove once using But dont think i would convince him on the price

Good to hear you think meos are ok as ive just bought some secondhand to test still awaiting them, suppose i shouldnt try anything else before hand but ive become addicted to searching for cloth nappies before ive started lol!!

Interesting re tumble drier, as we have one but i have been told you shouldnt tumbledry them as it kills them..but i was concerned about crispiness

You shouldn't tumbledry bumgenius or the nappy wraps as it stops them being waterproof and destroys the velcro on BG faster. No problem with tumbledrying just the ME nappies though. If you have explosive poos then a two part system is always going to be better than a pocket nappy like BG - but BG win on convenience. Could you go for a combination - 10 of each? That's what we have, use BG in our nappy bag and when out, and ME at night and the rest of the time. I don't think BG will go over night with a heavy wetter. Second hand ME are great, no need to buy them new, but in my experience new BG are better as they are less durable than the ME - we have some second hand ones and the elastic has gone and the velcro is going.
We never tumble dry ours and they aren't that hard, certainly DS doesn't seem to mind.

I think you're doing the right thing by trying out a few, preloved if poss. We've used all the ones you've mentioned (and more!) and they've all got their different strengths.

Our main nappy is BG (as all BOGOF when I did my big nappy shop0, though they're not as durable/good at containing and absorbing as ME or Bumbles. I love Bumbles, but they were bulky on my (small) babies for some time. I used BG on my daughter until she stopped wearing nappies at nearly 3, though some people find that their toddler grows out of them by 2 years.

I found that we were getting a few leaks with BG at one point, so used hemp boosters which are ultra thin and absorbent.

Have fun in the world of cloth!

MEOS: if you get the "staydry" ones then you always have a soft inner lining no matter how crusty the rest of the nappy gets after washing. Add the snap in booster for absorbency (you could even get the bamboo ones), of course there is nothing to stop you using another booster. The nappy and wrap give you 2 lots of leg elastic to protect against leaks/explosions.

I don't get the convenience problem, I used to keep my MEOs folded ready to use with the booster and liner in, it takes 5 seconds to put the wrap on top. I think it's an economical system as 1 wrap can do you all day - I only had 4-5 wraps on the go.

ME wraps brilliant, and go over most nappies for extra water proofing

ME onesize good for heavy wetting
(with booster and wrap) though bulky and take time to dry.

ME sized nappies better but they don't stay in the small sizes long....

does your local council do a real nappy scheme?

steph1512 · 17/07/2010 21:16

No nappy scheme avalible unfortunately.

The preloved MEOS Im waiting for are ctton i think..would the stay dry pop in booster be softer against the skin.

Ive seen a job lot of 15new Bg. On a nappysite bid is at 50 at the mo with 10postage although im sure they will finish at more dont want to flok out if idont liek prob should just try theME first as havent done cloth yet..but also dont want to miss out on a bargin if the BGs dont go up much more.

Like the ides of the bumble with nappy nips as i can stuff them more if ds is getting very wet..but havent actually seen any to know how bulky they are ds is 14lb at the mo

The Nature Babies Big Softie is less bulky but IMO more absorbent than the Bumble or the Motherease One Size - has an extra booster with it for a similar price to the Bumble, and is easier to add more absorbency too. It's also really well made. For a heavy wetter I'd be more inclined to go for a two part nappy & wrap than the BG.

steph1512 · 19/07/2010 09:06

thanks ariela i will have a look at those to. Have found some tots bots organic cotton and totsbot easyfit (bamboo) aswell for what seems a bargin..think is was 30 pounds for 5.

Are these anygood..thought the easyfit could be good for hubby, but will bamboo take forvever to dry?
