i would love to sponsor a child but i have no idea who is the best charity to do it through. im not bothered about the age but i would prefer a girl as i would love to send them things my little girl has finished with. is this possible when you sponsor??? and also my husband is worried about how much of the money actually goes to the child etc. can anyone advise us? thanks x

I sponsor with ActionAid and think they are ok. i get nice little cards every couple of months.

Regarding sending stuff - they don't let you do that but they will let you visit. The money goes to the community and I would imagine you could donate to the community rather than the individual child.

This is to stop an 'inequality' amongst the children. This is again the reason the money goes to the community to support projects that benefit all, not just the child you sponsor.

DH thought the first card I received was hilarious because the little girl had drawn a picture of her house and it looked like a mansion! Very sweet but as she is only little we just get drawings and she writes her name.
