in case any of you are interested. He was my hearthrob when I was a geeky teenager but he's a real sad case now, it's such a shame. 9pm tonight folks.

oo thanks donnie i have set it to record

lou33 · 17/07/2003 16:30

He was beautiful then wasn't he? I've already set it to reminder on Sky.

CP1 · 17/07/2003 16:32

1 word - LEGEND!

bouncy · 17/07/2003 16:56

Shame what has happened to him, a bit before my time, but still a shame.

ForestFly · 17/07/2003 16:58

Is that him in the trailers?!!!!!

Boe · 17/07/2003 17:05

Always found men in make up a bit dodgy????????

He was beautiful though and is so sad to see him in that state now - he has been suffering from mental illness for most of his life and he did so well to achieve what he did.

Have also set reminder.

jessi · 17/07/2003 17:14

Thanks for the reminder, I absolutely idiolised him when I was a teenager. I once saw him in the local supermarket when I was about 15, he was buying nappies! I was mesmerised and almost fainted. I feel so sorry that he has suffered from mental illness, its horrible that people take the p* out of him now but its hardly his fault. Out of interest did anyone see the prog on Paul Gasgoine last week? Interesting that they thought he has tourettes or attention defecit disorder.

donnie · 17/07/2003 22:34

well, I just saw the programme and feel quite sad really. He was so talented but I had never realised how much mental illness he'd had throughout his life. And to be plagued by not one but two separate stalkers - poor guy. I wonder if he has any contact with the daughter they mentioned.
And those cheekbones - were they to die for or what ?????

Donnie I agree it was a very sad programme. you could see he was still struggling with it, and found it hard to discuss sometimes.I thought it was quite courageous of him to be so candid.

I wondered about his daughter too. It must be awful for her seeing her father splashed all over the papers being made fun of.

On a lighter note, YES, those cheekbones! He was absolutely gorgeous wasn't he? He went to dh's school btw, but a few years before. Dh just told me he really fancied a particular girl, but when he realised AA was going out with her he knew he didn't stand a chance. I told him he wouldn't have stood a chance with me either if I had to pick between them both at the time. Actually there were certain similarities between AA and Dh then. They both had wonderful cheekbones, both had that cocky self assured air, and both seemed a bit naughty (note I said "had", due to dh's rapidly advancing middle age ). Those were the days......sighs....

He came across well though, didn't he? Not sorry for himself particularly and very candid about his mental illness. Good for him.

I saw him once in a bar in London. He was sat on his own reading the paper and asked my then boyfriend to pass the sugar! The ex was totally in awe and just sat there refusing to talk for the next half hour in some sort of strange reverence. Very embarrassing.

lou33 · 18/07/2003 01:11

I agree Nobby he did come across very well. You could still see a glimpse of the old Adam Ant from time to time I thought. But...Cannon and Ball... what WAS he thinking?!!!

PamT · 18/07/2003 06:18

I forgot it was on - anyone know if it will be repeated?

Crunchie · 18/07/2003 17:29

Wasn't he just THE most beautiful guy when he was younger!!! I missed his real heyday, I was only 11-12 and just that bit to young, but I used to think he was quite alright even then The programme was interesting, it really explained the whole manic depression bit well. I never really understood it.
