Lost wedding ring - what would you do?

I have actually managed to lose my wedding ring. I have spent the last four days looking for it, but to no avail. I am fairly sure that I put it down somewhere in my flat and it has got knocked into a bin and thrown away. I have turned everything upside down and moved furniture, but it is not here.

Sooooo....I need to replace it. Should I try to get one exactly the same (if possible?)? Or should I try and get something totally different? What would you do?

I lost mine too , and it was just before we had carpets taken up and new ones laid. I was mortified. I knew I had dropped it somewhere between the bathroom and the bedroom (I had just fallen pregnant at the time and was always loosing or forgetting things). I got to the stage of pricing up a new one and looking to have it blessed by the vicar. Then, one morning, I was packing my labour bag and grumbling about the prspect of giving birth without it, and then I saw it, at the back of my knickers drawer, in amongst all my oldest, bigest pants that I was putting into my labour bag! I was so relieved I cried!

Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is, it's bound to turn up - give it a while and don't fret because you can never see things when you are desperate to see them

my mum once lost her ring when gardening at home. Four years later she was doing the weeding and guess what she found!!!!

if you lost it in the hose its bound to turn up. just stop looking fo it and then its bound to be just lying on the side one day and you'll suddenly remeber thats where you left it, even though you have walked past that same spot a hundred times and hadn't seen it.

i lost mine in the local swimming pool, i claimed on the house insurance and brought a new completley different one, mainly because my origional was a one off specially made for me one and i didn't feel it could be replaced.

I'd wait a while too, just in case it turn up. I have just found something small I mislaid a year ago.

If you want a quick, temporary replacement, in your shoes, I'd get a cheap ring - something you like, but not a serious sort of buy.

If you decide your ring is well and truly lost, then IMO you and your dh need to get one that's special to you both now - so it has a present as well as a past meaning. Perhaps when you next go on holiday you could get one from a local jeweller.

I think it depends on what the ring means to you. If you like a ring as a sign to the world that you are married, then replace it. If you're not that bothered about wearing it, but it's special because you chose it together or because it has some significance that it tied to that particular ring (rather than wedding rings in general) then wait and see if it turns up.

If you do replace it and the original turns up at least you'll have one in reserve in case you loose it again in the future.

Buy one from a pawn shop. DH lost his. Found it about 4 months later in our cupboard.

i cant loose mine i put that much weight on my wedding ring stuck in my finger.
when dd was breech they said i could have c-section. i didnt want c-s because friend told me that i have to remove my wedding ring, i said i better die before have my wedding ring cut, luckily dd turned by ecv, and i still have my wedding ring. i said dh i will know when i loose all my extra weight hope you will find it one day, friend of mine lost hers and bought new one, and she found it later, so shes got two now
if not buy something you like now, and im sure you will love it

Dh lost his on our honeymoon! How careless is that? He was snorkeling in the sea and it fell off. After a quick search, I told him to forget it because there was no chance of finding it but bless him, he spent a hour snorkeling to try and find it. Some women who saw what happened couldn't believe that I wasn't angry. He hardly meant to do it, he was devastated. We bought him a new, identical one and had it blessed by the same Vicar that had married us.

I expect that your ring will turn up, Ilanak...

My dh lost his whilst scuba diving - we were doing our advanced Padi so the instructor turned the dive into teh search and rescue module, and we found it by doing circle patterns.

I like tigermoths idea of getting a ring that means something now rather than an exact replacement - you could even think of this one as an eternity ring, then if your real one does turn up you've got both.

Yes - but very useful for toping up teh jewellery box MI - and weddings rings have to be paid for by the man. Good use for that pay rise?

logic, I have an almost identical story!

My dh lost his on honeymoon in the Maldives. Lost it on the beach or sea or something. I was devastated - in a right state and dh snorkelled all around for AGES to no avail.

We got a new one, exactly the same, with same engraving on the inside and guess what...a few months letter the original ring was sent to us by the island!! Someone had found it in the sand!!!

We knew it was ours by the way cos of the engraving (the details of which we obviously left when it was lost)

Bet it will turn up!

Another story is when we lost our main car keys. Ds1 was about 18 months and after tipping the whole house upside I convinced myself he'd put them in the toilet and flushed (a habit of his at the time). A right palava followed where the car had to be broken into, taken off the drive by a big truck, we had to do all sorts of investigating the previous owner for the code...cost us about £300 to replace.

A year later - moving furniture - under the sofa!

Thanks everyone. I am not so convinced it will turn up, but I am willing to wait and see. We are off on holiday to Key West Florida end of October and if it hasn't turned up by then, maybe I will look for a new one there.

I would cry.

I would want another one just like my original one as it is quite special and dh has a matching ring.

I lost mine once too, and had absolutely no idea where. We were too poor to buy a replacement, though if we hadn't been I would've tried to buy exactly the same one. However, about a year later, whilst cleaning under the washing machine, understandably something you don't do often, I found it, covered in grime! So hang on a bit, you never know!

My mum lost her engagemnt ring on holiday and she made my dad buy her a new one! Admittedly not the same thing, but it did mean she got a new ring

Ilana, I'm in exact same boat as you! I feel pretty bad about it, too. My wedding ring went missing week before last, I'm hoping it's in the bed linen somewhere; my hands sometimes swell up at night and I switch the finger I wear my ring on; could have fallen off while I was asleep.

I also take it off to do the dishes, but doubt I lost it there.

We do have a bad track record wrt to marital rings. I lost my first engagement ring on the beach a month after we were engaged. Never found it DH got an exact replacement

DH lost his wedding ring (enormously too big, his knuckles were swollen when he was getting it sized up) in a churchyard in Wales. We hunted for an hour but to no avail. We left a note on the notice board... something like 3 months later somebody phoned up to say they had found it!

DH now wears a nice, inexpensive silver ring in place of the real wedding ring (which is kept in a drawer, still too big!!).
