Losing anonymity on MN - has it happened to you?

HI, some people may have read my earlier thread about this which is now deleted as are all my earlier posts and comments on other threads. The reason for this is that a friend of my boss at work told her my MN name (she worked it out, I don't know the friend but she's a regular poster on here, a lot of you will know who she is but I'm still not sure about divulging her name) and then sent her an email link to some of my most embarrassing threads. I found out about it on Friday and have been stewing over what to do. I decided to get my posts etc. deleted and maybe take a new name or maybe keep a different name for more sensitive stuff. I'm pretty fed up about it as some of the threads like my quitting smoking chats have been a saviour to me and I now feel I can't post on them as freely as before. But still.

Anyway, wanted to let you know that's why my name comes up as 'message deleted' all over the place. I'm not banned.

Yet!

She should just own up. She knows what she did is wrong so she will proabaly keep a low profile for a while or create a new name for herself (if she hasn't already)

I suppose if people were really keen to know who this person is there is one thing you could try - apart from the fact would it cause trouble in rl for mll? Could this person go to her boss and say things to make her boss have a lower opinion of mll? You see, I worry that this will ultimatly come back on mll, as the 'rl' person iyswim!!!

But, like I said, that given due consideration, everyone who isnt this person could come on this thread and say how awful it is, then the suspects are those who didn't post - and who have the right no of kids and whose names can be linked to the word 'slippery' - unless that one wasn't a cryptic clue and I just have too much time on my hands!

I also think that what's said on mn should stay on mn, fwiw.

mummylonglegs · 13/08/2005 21:54

Oh Lord, what have I started! Honestly I don't know that I know who the MN name of this person is. If I did I'd probably say it now to end the detective work! It's really important though to remember the context I've told you this all happened in, I mean I don't think this person deserves the wrath of hell to fall upon her.

And yes, mtp, this could of course backfire on me horribly if / when my boss gets a link to this thread!

How horrible MLL.. I'd hate for anything said in confidence (that the right phrase?) or anonamously (sp)to get spread around. Hope justice is served. What a horrible horrible MNer.

Mytwopenceworth · 13/08/2005 22:21

mll - yes, just the thing I worried about - on a computer screen it is 'entertainment' - by that I dont mean its funny ha-ha, I mean, its removed from reality for those reading it - for you its actual, with real repercussions. Its fun to have conversations like this - how to guess the name!! but the other side, like you say, is when your boss waves it in your face and says whats all this then!!

Exactly mtp. I really didn't intend this to get quite so mad, though of course I have started it. The bottom line is, we're all curious and if someone told us the name of someone we work with on MN we'd all be a bit curious to read their posts wouldn't we? That I can understand. It was the emailing of the links that threw me because that seems too, I don't know, 'nasty'? Is that the word? BUT my boss was very open about it. This person is, according to her, a very nice person. I think she was probably having some 'fun' but didn't think about how it would be at my expense or how self-conscious it might make me at work. Dp thinks I should just let it drop. I think he's probably right.

beetroot, because I don't fully know the spirit in which the friend intended her actions. And because this person is an old close friend of my boss.

Except that she might think I've made too much of it. That is, if she can get beyond wondering if I've still got an itchy anus...

(one of the threads she may have read )

mummylonglegs · 13/08/2005 22:59

Nah, you won't get it out of me by force jampots. Now if you had a cure for my little problem just mentioned I might be more tempted ...

edodgy · 13/08/2005 23:02

MLL why dont you start a thread about how you're not feeling too well and you can feel a bout of flu coming on etc that way you can pull a sicky on Monday and she'll know yu're telling the truth once word of the thread gets to her LOL.

jampots · 13/08/2005 23:02

what problem

mummylonglegs · 13/08/2005 23:19

My little itching problem jampots. You know, the one that everyone at work is discussing as I pass these days?

edodgy, that's a fine idea. I could also get all kinds of messages through this way, like the arrangement of my computer monitor, my pay, etc. etc. ... Hmmm ... this could be a good thing!

Thanks AM, I am. What's done is done.

Actually my 'problem' is better now , just one of those embarrassing things you'd have preferred to keep on the internet.
