My dh wants to know if there is a dadsnet or something similar?

Hope not, otherwise we'll be falling out over PC time.

whymummy · 14/07/2003 21:12

snickers · 14/07/2003 21:21

There is a "dads only" chat forum on UK Parents website...

Fathers Direct . They even have their own glossy magazine which you can buy from the site at the mo, is given out at some antenatal clinics and the Autumn issue, due out in October, will be available in WHS.

I had a friend of mine review it and he thought it was excellent. It looks at pushchairs like cars, etc. It also has the obligatory half-naked female who looks like she's never seen pregnancy, let alone knows anything about breastfeeding (she's featured next to an article on the latter).

Good mag, though.

Lil · 15/07/2003 13:15

Ha Ha, Suew I just looked at that link and surprise, surprise the first article advertised in the magazine is a half naked woman and the title in bold...'the truth about sex during pregnancy'!!! Men they'll never change

Yes, Tom's gone quiet again hasn't he? I haven't seen him for a while.

Friend did an excellent review - well-written, etc. not just favourable iyswim. It looks good in my NCT newsletter

Hey - I'm here Just busy, that's all!
Glad your friend liked the mag SueW - and I can see that you've clocked that we've thought very carefully about how to market info to men

The half-naked woman pic was chosen BECAUSE it looked like she had never breastfed, because the audience for the magazine is men who are EXPECTING babies, and that's the kind of breast they're used to We wanted to get away from the cliche of the bubba clamped on breast pic, but at the same time, we hope it was more arty than porno

That was also the thinking behind having a man without a baby on the front cover - expectant dads don't identify with the pics of men and babies - because they havn't got one yet! It's all been thought through, and I'm pleased that your friend liked it SueW.

Hey Lil - of course we have sex on the front cover - that's how you get men to read magazines! Surely you aren't suggesting this is just something men do - are you suggesting that women's magazines DON'T do this???!!!!

We're hoping to roll out the mag free to men in ante-natal clinics in the autumn - it's been very complicated trying to get the Department of Health, Royal College of Midwives etc etc on board, and still produce something that men want to read, but we think we've done a good job.

There is a forum on Fathers Direct (Dadtalk), but I'm not too happy with it, as its hard to use. We will be revamping the site soon, with much better forum software, so it should be easier for dads to have the kind of conversation that goes on here.

If anyone ever needs to get hold of me by the way (because I've gone awol and a topic like this comes up), just go to the contact page on Fathers Direct, and any messages sent from there will go straight to me

Dadslib I think feeling guilty is implanted into you when you have kids. Dh and I are always feeling guilty for something regarding the kids!

DaddyMatt · 28/07/2003 23:20

Kids and guilt, they sure do go hand in hand. And dadslib, if you are thinking like that then your a good dad in my eyes. Too many dad's just dont seem to care.

And yes it's easier talking to mums then dads!!!

Ronniebaby · 28/07/2003 23:25

Daddymatt, knew you had to get in there somehow, gosh you're going wild now I've introduced you to all these mums

Tom · 05/08/2003 11:12

Well, for those dads who are interested, you should know that I've upgraded the forum software on Fathers Direct today, so it should be much easier to get discussion going.
DaddyMatt and Dadslib, I suggest you just need to meet the right kind of dads, and FD is probably where you'll find em Just click on the Dadtalk button when you get there.
