Forget unfit parents and asylum seekers- I think the figures quoted on the othert threads have demonstrated they are not a huge tax burden- and are one a civilised country should well be able to afford.

Today's Sunday Times revealed where our money is going ......public sector management.....

Read it and weep.

I read it too Jimjams, and wasn't the least bit surprised that Luton was mentioned. Must be why their services are so crap, and they wouldn't give ds any help.

basically 1 in 4 people work in the publice sector, and there's been a massive increase in stupid jobs which aren't doing anything worthwhile/useful and you get paid 20-35k !!!
so ladies what can we do to stop this total waste of money???

janh · 14/07/2003 09:24

this piece in the Guardian says something similar - calls them Clipboard fascists. (Not sure if these are public sector or private but public money pays - well, except for the book/TV thing.)

A lot of my family, and few friends I know work for the Home Office, and I am frequently shocked how much money get wasted there. Eg A mate of mine was actually told by her boss when she first joined to take 'sick leave' at least 1 day a month to keep in line with rest of the others ! My sister's mate reguarly took sick leave 2/3 days a week. She was there for 2 years before she was eventually found out, and sacked ! In fact my sister's dh only last week commented on how he could never leave the civil service as they have excellent sickness benefits ! (He reguarly takes 2 weeks off when he comes down with a cold or flu.

However the biggest scam at the moment there is that some employees there are getting vastly overpaid. This has been going on for just over 3 years now. My sister has complained frequently to the HR department there and pointed out their mistake. She has been overpaid 8K (over her maternity and parental leave, and now she is back working there she is currently getting overpaid 1K a month. She has tried many times to pay the difference back but the HR department don't want to know. Some of her colleagues who have been overpaid similar amounts have kept quiet, or already spent their overpayments, and some have even left with their extra 'windfall'.
