beetrrot I dont want to change your opinion. I have no intention of doing that. I have never once said that genuine asylum seekers are less deserving neither.

beetroot I dont have a problem with economic migration.I have no problem with people from ANY culture or nationality coming over here and living peaceful and fulfilling lives.
My parents emigrated to Australia when I was 5. I lived there for 11 years with a huge variety of cultures, religions and people and may I say it was absolutely wonderful.I spent all my formative years there learning the history of Australia and its population.I worked for 12 months over there when I left school at 15. It was my home.Suddenly, when I was 16, my parents could take no more racial abuse and we came back to Britain.I had no choiuce in the matter.Believe it or not but being british is not considered wonderful in Australia.Well it wasnt when I was there in Melbourne.
Since then I have tried to go back to live and I could not get a permit because I had no sponsor, job or home.Do you think that is fair?I regard that as my home. As I have said to you before if I had no children I would love to travel the whole world and learn about different cultures and religions as I love people. What is so wrong in that.
Can you tell me what a genuine is coz I dont know.

im not twisting anything beetroot i honestly wanted to know, and by the way i dont see anything racist in doormats comments

doormat · 17/07/2003 19:41

yes I did make those statements

To me a blagger is a person who comes into this country seeking asylum under false pretences. If they were genuine they could easily seek asylum, if they genuinely want to contribute to society why not go through the proper immigration channels like everyone else has to.They do not need to lie to come and live here. But it happens why???
IMO
Maybe because they know they will get benefits and an easy ride

I don't know what all the fuss is about - the UK ends up with all the waifs and strays anyway, as the other countries don't do thier bit when the lorries, trains etc go through thier countries - which is why the UK is so poor - we pay for every one else.

Sorry to upset people but theres not a lot we can do about it except complain have a go at other people and thier views. It's not worth fighting with each other over this, people have thier own views and you can't dis them for it.

Poor beetroot is being picked on - and for what? her views? at the end of the day nothing will change, except that are country will get poorer and poorer.

whymummy · 18/07/2003 10:08

hi crazynow
believe me we are not picking on beetroot,if you read jojos offensive posts directed at me youll see whos been picked on,the thing about this thread is that theres the non racists, superior human beings and the very racists with their kkk outfits hanging in the wardrobe and is not fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion without having to listen to those accusations!!

Boe · 18/07/2003 10:26

Marina, was this on Avery Hill Road - the guy being beaten up when he got off of the bus - the police signs are up 300 yeards from my house and I did not know until last night when DP pointed it out - I was stunned!!

Marina · 18/07/2003 12:17

That's the incident, Boe - I was nearby at the time and I saw the gang get off the bus. After speaking to the police I now realise that the victim was assaulted on the bus - not just afterwards on the estate itself. The other lad I saw must have got away, thank goodness - the guy they attacked stayed on the bus to wait for the emergency services.
We really are near neighbours then! I thought we must be as you have previously mentioned Chislehurst Sainsbos and the general scariness of the Crays...
I hope they get the so and sos who did this. I know there are plenty of good people living on that estate, it's just such a shame there are also some nasty trouble-makers. First time in three years I have actually felt scared there, though.

Boe · 18/07/2003 13:03

It is shocking - I bet they will get nothing more than a slap on the wrists though, I salute you for having the courage not to just walk away but to speak to the police about it all. Well done.

Yes we must be neighbours I live just up from where it happened, can literally see it from outside the house!! Sainsbury's in Chislehurst is great and I have not yet gone into the Crays - will tell you next week when I go.

Sorry for getting off of track everyone.

BBC news - asylum seekers

This is a pretty good link on the BBC site - doing a series on facts about asylum seekers. Search the Big Questions bit for more stuff.

Rhubarb · 18/07/2003 21:50

Whymummy, I don't think the contributers to this thread can be so easily categorised like that. Racism is a word that is thrown about far too easily on this thread.

When a subject like this comes up, many people are too scared of voicing their opinions in case they get jumped on, which is what has happened here - I even got called a racist! Just think for a moment about how you would feel if no-one listened to your views, if you got labelled for them, if you got ignored. Would that change your opinions or make them stronger? We have to listen to people here, stop labelling them and see things from their point of view.

Issues about asylum seekers or long-term immigrants are the same, it's all about integration. And that takes effort from all nations and religions. And unless people are listened to, integration and acceptance will not happen.

whymummy · 18/07/2003 21:54

rhubarb im not sure what are you trying to say but ive been defending the people on this thread that has been acused of being racist, can you explain please?

whymummy · 18/07/2003 22:16

well?im not looking for a confrontation i really dont know what you mean

Rhubarb · 18/07/2003 22:28

Sorry, I read this bit "the thing about this thread is that there`s the non racists, superior human beings and the very racists with their kkk outfits hanging in the wardrobe" and thought that was your view. Blimey, I must be going around touching everyone's raw nerves today!
