So my mate is serving in Afghanistan and told me about this 'Operationshoebox' thing and basically you send a shoebox of useful items to the troops in Afghanistan.

I've had a look but can see no address to send the shoebox to, has anyone else done it or know of someone who has etc and how did you find the address?

You have to email them, there's a regional link button at the bottom of the screen, it gives you the email address of someone local to you. HTH

Ok, thanks, I did email them but havent heard back yet. wasnt sure if I was doing it right.
Thanks.

Btw, if none of them are local to me...does it effect whether I will be able to send one out or not?

Be careful about this organisation - It sounds so lovely and simple doesn't it?
Basically you put together a shoe box of things for a girl or a boy, and send it off with a happy warm feeling... but OpShoebox dismantle your box, repack it and put Christian propaganda in it and only children who are Muslim are given the boxes on the condition they read the Christian message.

I found it terribly disrespectful and in dreadful taste: it truely disgusted me when I found out their MO.
Fancy trying to convert children in established Muslim families for a tooth brush a bar of soap and a little toy.

All White man's burden and Christian Missionary zeal - totally disgusting and disingenuous.

It's such a lovely idea - packing up a little shoebox and sending it off, but it's so tainted, I just boke when I think of the disrespectful Christian evangelism behind it.

Ok that's the first I ever heard of that!

My mate gets a few of these shoeboxes a month and knows most the soldiers around her get them too.

How did you come across this info?

If we're sending them to the troops how can they possibly give it to Muslim children?
Again, first I've heard about anything like that, sure it's true??

I think *Zazen" is confusing this appeal with the shoe box appeal- "Operation Christmas Child"

The one linked by the op is for troups in Afganistan.

fyimate · 31/05/2010 09:14

I thought that too.

OOps! If I am sorry! I was truly disgusted by it here in my country where it's called the shoebox appeal or the samaritans' purse

Carry on, as you were

fyimate · 31/05/2010 10:03

Haha no problem.

So has no one sent one?
