If mutineers start a mutiny are they mutineering or mutinying?

crumpet · 07/08/2005 22:56

I'd go for the latter but couldn't say why

snafu · 07/08/2005 22:56

mutinying

snafu · 07/08/2005 22:56

If mountaineers mountaineer then don't muntineers muntineer?

hatstand · 07/08/2005 23:00

I love that sentence

Easy · 07/08/2005 23:00

Well, to mutiny is he verb, so I guess mutinying if you must.

Mutineer is a noun, so definately not mutineering.

I might say "behaving mutinously"

hatstand · 07/08/2005 23:01

I didn't mean mine btw, just wanted to say something abount mountaineers

marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:01

Oh arse, dh is right then. Mutinying sounds wrong to me - it should be mutineering.

You go mountineering, not mountainying, don't you?

OP posts:
Janh · 07/08/2005 23:02

mutineer is one who does it, darling, and not a verb in any way. Mutiny is a noun, but also a verb. So it's that. [helpful]

Lovely to see you by the way, now you're back I realise you weren't here (have you seen the thread asking after MTS today? Someone said it's like Kim's game on MN, you know someone's missing but you don't know who )

marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:02

Racketeering, not racketying.

OP posts:
marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:03

Ahhh, you're all pretending you noticed I was gone now...

I don't care, mutinying sounds awful!

OP posts:
marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:04

I think Miaou's mutinising is a good compromise.

OP posts:
marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:05

Or if they were girl mutineers they could be mutinetteing.

OP posts:
hatstand · 07/08/2005 23:05

just noticed all my extra ns. Muntineer???

marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:06

You know you've been married too long when you argue about such things...

OP posts:
hatstand · 07/08/2005 23:07

are we married?

marthamoo · 07/08/2005 23:08

Blimey...are we? Is that you? Have you started the dishwasher?

OP posts:
Janh · 07/08/2005 23:08
