Anyone had a Brazilian - does it hurt?

OK you can laugh at me but I was thinking of getting one as I have to go and sort out my spiders legs before going on holiday...

Had my legs waxed today and couldn't go through with it, thought it might be very painful! Dh swears that he read somewhere that it doesn't hurt (oh yeah?)

So come on you lot, own up!!

It HAS to hurt!! Get your DH to try it first and then ask him if it hurts!

SamboM · 04/07/2003 19:11

I have suggested it! No reply yet

What's a Brazilian?

I assume we're not talking about a man from Brazil

SoupDragon · 04/07/2003 19:58

Not quite! I believe it's when all your pubic hair is removed from your nether regions!!

Ness73 · 04/07/2003 20:02

Not hurt?? Well, of course it will. Have to admit I've been tempted myself. Only a couple of places in the UK do it I think. You'll need a hefty vodka first.

bossykate · 04/07/2003 20:19

have you had your bikini line done before? if not let me tell you that even a bog standard bikini line hurts a lot more than legs...

mckenzie · 04/07/2003 20:28

I want to have it dont too SamboM but I'm also being a chicken about it, maily for the pain but also because I'm quite friendly with the girl who does my waxing and I think i'll be embarrassed.

Someone mums netter out that must have had it done, surely!

Enid · 04/07/2003 20:36

OK. A brazilian is where they leave a 'strip' behind. A Hollywood is where everything goes. I have had a brazilian in the past and its not that bad, painwise. And looks nice too, or so dp told me ! But I had two kids with gas and air only so I may have a high pain threshold

Ness73 · 04/07/2003 20:46

ha ha Enid..yeah I think so. Gas and air no good for me - demanded epidural. Not sure if I'm up to Brazilian then though I do like the sound of it.

mckenzie · 04/07/2003 21:04

thanks Enid. Do you think it would be better to go to someone I dont know rather than the girl who's been doing my waxing for so long that she's more like a friend? Wo I have to lose all my inhibitions again?

iota · 04/07/2003 21:06

It would be nice to get an epidural for it woudn't it? Apart from the pain relief, all those drugs mean you just don't care anymore

Enid · 04/07/2003 21:11

I really embarrassed myself by asking my new waxer down here in Dorset to go really high on the bikini line - she looked really shocked and said 'oh, we dont do that' and was then really silent and embarrassed....it was so hideous I've never dared ask anyone else...if they are up for it they often ask you themselves

SofiaAmes · 04/07/2003 21:32

I guess I've had a hollywood brazilian (left less than a strip ... more like a patch). Anyway, it hurt like hell. I had it done twice (god knows why i went back a second time). I got blood blisters in a few spots and lots and lots of ingrown hairs. Frankly I'd rather go through childbirth again.
And by the way, my dh too would tell anyone that it "doesn't hurt" because he would love me to get it done again.
Hair remover is the only way to go! NO pain and it grows back without the ingrown hairs.

codswallop · 04/07/2003 21:34

does nt it make you look a little pre pubescent?

Ness73 · 04/07/2003 21:38

Just had nasty experience with Veet hair remover. Itchiness then the dreaded bumps. Kind of ruined the effect for DH.

SofiaAmes · 04/07/2003 22:26

Cods, I think that's the point. Don't forget we're talking about pleasing MEN.

The secret with hair remover is to make sure to wash it off with COLD water. Actually, that goes for anything that is likely to irritate your skin (creams) or make it smell (garlic). Warm water opens the pores and makes everything "soak" in. Cold water keeps the foreign bodies out.

bossykate · 04/07/2003 22:38

i think the pain depends on what kind of hair you have probably... so all you downy blondes shouldn't have that much of an issue...

bossykate · 04/07/2003 22:41

enid, i imagine the waxers at babington house know a brazilian from a hollywood...

wickedstepmother · 05/07/2003 09:13

Have had it done a few time and it is AGONY. Though stangely enough, I found having my underarms waxed was even more painful I bruised terribly when I had it done the first 3 or 4 times, I paid a lot for it so hopefully it wasn't a YTS girl ! Now I just use Immac or whatever it's called now. It's quick easy and painless, but it does need to be done more regularly.

wickedstepmother · 05/07/2003 09:14

Sorry, my grammar is terrible in that last post !

codswallop · 05/07/2003 10:11

I would certainly not aim to please a mans dodgy lusts (shiver)

It will be dressing up as a school girl next

yuck

codswallop · 05/07/2003 10:14

any way I find it hard enough to get dh to remove the hair from his nose let alone elsewhere. Men would NEVER do this...

Women do make life difficult for themselves...

wickedstepmother · 05/07/2003 10:29

Having said all that Coddy, I bet you shave your legs !!

codswallop · 05/07/2003 10:34

yes - because thats easy and not painful...!

alibubbles · 05/07/2003 10:35

I don't find having underarms or bikini done at all painful. I find the warm wax quite relaxing! I do DD's bikini and underarms for her, but legs take too long.

I'd like to get a brazilian done, but as mckenzie says I know my waxer too well. My waxer also says that it needs to be done by waxers professionally trained to do that specific type of waxing, so couldn't do it. She does take a tremendous amount off anyway, so if you wear a thong she will do as much as you want.
