Anyone who cares about having a clean environment free of toxic chemicals to live in, please sign this

wwf petition

More info (copied and pasted from an email they sent me): As a result of the poor regulation of the chemicals industry, there is not one person, or animal, on Earth that has not been exposed to a cocktail of man-made chemicals - from a polar bear in the Arctic, to a tree-frog in the tropical rainforest, to a new born baby in Britain.

Within the next five months the EU, led by the UK Government, will decide how effective the new chemicals regulation (known as REACH) will be at protecting the environment and the health of our children and wildlife for generations to come.

Please join WWF in asking the Prime Minister to persuade other European politicians to stop exposing us and our environment to toxic chemicals.

And just how much research do "green" companies do?

What rationale do they use in the selection of their chemicals - at some point they are using the data published, ethically, by larger companies. Or rather the raw material supplier who sees an opportunity provides them with the multinational's data...

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:23

Sorry - spotted their ingredient lists. TBH, they don't look particularly green. THe skin cleanser I clicked on contains Kathon .

lunachic · 31/07/2005 17:23

heres another product with listed ingredients
notice there is also a product line which you can phone where you can speak to a person who has more info

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:24

What's so great about the air freshener? What's so green about it?

lunachic · 31/07/2005 17:25

ive always wondered actually about wether all there ingredients are sound obviously they would say they are but some of them are still chemicals (supposedly) less harmful ones
what is kathon ?

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:26

Yeah, but I don't need more info. I know how to read an ingredient panel , and know what most ingredients are there for.

lunachic · 31/07/2005 17:27

kathon
doesnt sound too bad on here

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:27

Kathon is a preservative made up of methylisothiazolinone and methylcholorisothiazolinone. Some consumers are sensitised to it, even though it's typically used at only 5ppm in wash-off products.

I have regularly come across cleaning products which sting my eyes, catch the back of my throat and burn skin. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather not have poisons like these in my house. I don't want to clean food surfaces with them even if they do save me vital seconds scrubbing, I don't want my kids getting hold of it, I don't even want to pour it down the drain into the sewage system.

I was thrilled to learn that I actually don't need to.

Damn! Baby's crying and dinners ready. Just when I was getting my stride.

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:28

So you like Rohm & Haas then?

lunachic · 31/07/2005 17:29

think their ethic is effective products with harmless chemicals
they dont profess to be chemical free

Tinker · 31/07/2005 17:31

R&H supply a lot of oil based products - likely carcinogens?

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:31

ROFL

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:32

They supply chemicals that are toxic - especially if you are a little bacterium

lunachic · 31/07/2005 17:32

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:36

Ameriscot2005 · 31/07/2005 17:40
